From 215/35/18 to 225/40/18 worth it?

From 215/35/18 to 225/40/18 worth it?

Post by synviper » Sun Jul 18, 2010 10:41 pm

Been looking into finding some bigger tires since after the 15 hour drive home from Carlisle, i felt like i went 12 rounds with Mike tyson in the ring. I was wondering is 225/40/18s ride quality would be significantly better than my rubberbands now.

Im not taking wheel gap into consideration since ill be on IPP coilovers pretty soon.

Current ideas:
-Dump 400 bucks into tires and bump the sidewall up an inch.
-Sell my current rims and go with smaller rims and bigger tires?

So any opinions/Advice?

Thanks in advanced.

I vote smaller wheels. 16s are baller, but 17s w/ 225/45 or 50 is legit, especially when you get rid of that gap completely. Plus it'll feel waaaay nicer.

18" anything in my experience isn't really made for ride quality vs. performance. Go with smaller wheels.

235/45ZR17

was this an option? I wasn't paying attention.

Mox: Where 235/45/17s on your blue car when you had the silver wheels on it?

Yes I had 235/45's on my SRT. I also went down to that size on the MS3 after messing around and hating the 18's that I was running. The 235/45 size is very comfortable for daily driving, gives you enough contact patch to allow for very good traction, and has enough sidewall to reduce wheel spin in the corners.

Just throwing this out there I've got 205/40/R17's on my '05 and they don't ride that rough, so maybe drop down to 17's with a similar sized tire?

He's got an SRT, and it would be pointless for him to go from 215/30/18 to 205/40/17 when his stock tire size is a 205/50/17 anyhow. He wants MORE tire and less rim.

I also vote get some smaller wheels. I recently just downgraded (upgraded in a way) to 15" snowflakes and I'm loving the comfort while driving.

For you, maybe something like 2xx / 50 / 17, since that will be pretty much neck and neck with stock. Wanna buy my 17 gold rims? lol
