Earliest 2nd gen built

Post by charger440neon2.0l » Tue Jul 20, 2010 11:32 pm

I found what I believe to be one of the earliest 2nd gen neons. The car is doomed to be crushed Friday. Its at the St.Louis pick n pull. I peeled the door sticker off it, date of manufacture is 2-99 I feel thats rather early since most start production in june or july, my ex's 99 neon has a build date of 4-99 so this 2000 was built before it. The vin reads 1B3ES46C0YD515949 The car is a sohc 5spd blue with gray cloth int. I looked the car over to see if there were any goodies like I found on my last early production neon I found in the junk yard. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Check here for the Pilot Neon that was at the same junk yard

1P3ES42C6TD000015 that's the vin off that car. it appears to be the 15th car off the assembly line and its date of manufacture is 10-94 but its a 96 neon.

It would make sense that the car is pretty early.

524,637 supermike
It was built in February, so its got August and October beat out in early production. 8,687 passed the line before supermikes car came down the line and his is the lowest vin there for 2000.

Interesting. That means that it would have been built before model changeover (typically late summer), alongside the 1GNs.

early neon production

Post by g_force58 » Sun Sep 26, 2010 4:14 pm

My car was built in April of 1999. It's interesting how the two examples were Depp Amethyst Pearl, that's the color on mine. This begs the question, did they build the cars in color batches or were they produced in random colors?

Random. And it's not too strange really since deep amethyst was a 2000 only color and not very many at that.

I don't believe there's any solid info regarding 2gn production numbers by color. If I recall correctly anyway. I just know there's very few on here that I know of (you and hul kogan) and other than that, I've only ever seen one other one in real life.

It's kinda a shame that car got crushed. It was probably striped bare of everything. It's one of those neons you wish was saved cause of it's liniage. I would have loved to have had it and fixed it up.
