Alright this ticked me off when I installed the map light RVM in my car. I still haven't fixed it but...
I have found that my car was not pre-wired for this light. I had to wire it into constant +12v, Grn to Grn obviously. The last wire needs to be hooked up to +12v with the dome light. Now the dome light is a negative trigger so it is always hot but it gets a ground connection from the BCM and the light turns on.
Now this wouldn't be an issue to use a relay to change polarity for the map lights, however the dome light is on a dimmer after the doors shut and if you were to use a relay it would cause the map lights to instantly shut off when the relay lost power while the dome light still dims. This wouldn't matter to almost anyone but me lol. FYI the wires run down the passenger side of the car to the back then to the front. If you would like to do this.
I am still trying to figure out how to get them to dim with the dome light.
It is possible that this does not apply to you if your car comes with the wiring for that light.
