ignition key failure ( not the lock )

Post by 86fazer » Sun Jul 25, 2010 5:10 pm

so low an behold, after new timing belt kit etc, shocks, front suspension bushings all done, thanks to all the posts here you guys saved me a ton!

The ignition key has a lil tiny, puter metal shaft that goes into the ignition switch that broke into 2 lil tiny pieces this weekend way out in bfe. Good thing I had my torx set in my lil road trip tool bag since bfe was tx desert and no roaming cell service!

anyone done this fix yet? pretty easy it looks like but as for the par all par doesn't have unless you buy a full steering column! using a long screwdrive atm which is fine but I prefer to fix it so this doesn't happen again on the road. Junk yards might be the fix or has anyone glued in a shaft since the stock parts are cheap crap?

the only way to get that part is to get a whole steering column, that part is not serviced seperately...

yea as my luck would have it lol

junk yards want 100-350 for a column on 125k+ mille neons ( only to break again in a few months )

I'll make a shaft that reliable/serviceable works and post pics here in a few days

It is prolly more along the lines of cast aluminum.

Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.
