Yo, 01 ACR here

Post by tylrhufm » Tue Jul 27, 2010 9:42 am

Hey guys,

My name is Tyler. I live in "Wild and Wonderful" West Virginia. This is my first car it is a 2001 ACR. At first I used to HATE dodge neon's, but now I like it. I want to mod it but want to do it properly. I hate riced out cars! I like to keep it clean. One of the next things I want to do is put some new wheels on it. I would love to lower it but I'm not to sure because if any of you have been to/lived in WV you know how terrible the roads are and how crazy winters are. (250" avg. of snow per year)

The only thing I have done to it so far is change the system in the car because 1) The right door speaker was busted & 2) Factory Speakers don't cut it.

P.S. If you guys have any suggestions on what I should do to it feel free to leave a comment. All opinions are needed/welcome

P.S.S. What rims would look good?

Welcome, car looks good. I live in Michigan and I wouldn't hesitate to lower mine again even living on a dirt road.

sorry but the gumball tails have to go, try tinting the stock tails as 90% of the people here will approve that's a cheap and simple mod that makes the car look good. Also the spoiler(wing) overly sized and has to go, there are allot of wingless trunk lids in silver selling here all the time
Other than that, sweet find and don't over do it. Keep it simple and clean and you will be golden. Get the right tire and wheel configuration and you won't have to worry about a drop as the wheel well will be filled in and make the car sit like it should...
Welcome to the forum

PS - If this is what you like, then all the power to ya as we may bust your balls about the car but it's all in fun

When I first seen this car sitting in the lot the first thing I said to my parents was "I hate these tails" lol. I am working on a motor pic I will have one by tomorrow. I wish I could make it slammed but that is impossible here. I would like to take the wing off. I can feel the wind resistance because of it.

I understand you guys are not busting my balls either, I understand. I like your comments and suggestions.

The BIGGEST problem I face is my parents though. They don't want me to do anything to it. So I can only do subtle things. I have 1.5k to do anything with. I wanted to use it to buy new rims and tires but my mom is trying to control how I spend it. :beatstick:

That ACR is clean. I like the lip off the trunk too. But the BBS's are crazy expensive. I like those though. I was looking to put 17's on it that are clean and simple (this doesn't mean I have to have 17's). I always think about two things 1) Stay as far away from ricey as possible. 2) Keep it clean and fresh.

I'd like to have some ideas on wheels. I'd like to find some SRT-4 wheels.

P.S. I am gonna try to find some new tails soon.

I thought about going that route just because the rims are so cheap and I KNOW i am sure to bend a rim on these roads. There is a million pot holes on my road and you can't miss them.

@SlvrACR I think you have the rights to whore your car. How much did you have invested under the hood?

I think I might just go with the stock and night shade them possibly. Those tails do look alright though. Im not to crazy about the "busy" tails though. I like the simple look.

Welcome!

Or you can find stock tails on ebay/JY for around $45 for the pair, if you are patient, and shop around. You might even find some here.

Just keep in mind, that '03-'05 tails will not fit right, there would be a gap between the bottom of the light, and the bumper. In case you were not aware.

May as well keep the wing, until you can find a wingless trunk, or find someone to plug the holes properly, so there are no leaks. There are plastic plugs available to plug the holes, but I think those look a bit tacky.

If you know someone that is good with body filler, and paint, the holes could be patched without welding. Buy some 3M structural adhesive, and "glue" some mild steel plates (just something a bit larger than the holes) to the underside. When it is set, it will not come off short of a sledgehammer. No heat to warp or burn the existing paint.

I thought about getting the Carbon Fiber Trunk and Hood for it but I don't know if I want to drop that much money for them. The Srt rims do kinda look big. Im not to sure what wheels I will end up getting. Slipstreams are definitely out of the question though. I know they are light but I hate them.

I just want to get the flakes off of it.

also i just replaced my speakers today and if you don't feel like breaking bank on speakers pick up pioneers at wal mart... it may sound bad but i put them in my rear deck and doors and they are great and never distort unless you push it to its limits

I put Rockford Fosgate's in it. I did a lot of research because I wanted speakers that would have good bass & mids.

I have been looking around for rims so sometime soon I will upload a couple pics of the wheels I like and see what you guys think.

Welcome to the forum Tyler.

Your car is looking good. I agree with replacing the gumball lights with the OEM and then nightshade them. As for the wheels, the Silverstones are nice but hard to find. I like carbon fiber, but I must say if you find a replacement rear trunk with no holes would be the best.

Good luck with the build.

Right after I get new wheels I'm going to put a CAI, manifold, SRT exhaust (possibly) and more. I want to do more to it performance wise than looks. I love when someone looks at your car and says "it's pretty well stock" and then all they see are your ass.

P.P. If you have any other suggestions on what I should do performance wise leave a comment

Your parents will hate you if you put an SRT rear section on.
