No Reverse

Post by UriahRR » Sun Aug 01, 2010 9:30 pm

So... the car has been very tricky to get into reverse for months, but I've managed. However, recently it has been acting up big time. To the point where I need to grab it with both hands and yank back in order to get it into gear. Even then, it sometimes falls out. I have the clutch pushed to the floor, but it still acts as thought there's a wall between neutral and reverse and unless I really slam it in there, it won't go in.

Slamming isn't something I take lightly, so I know there must be something wrong, turning to the forum for help. All other gears work fine, as well. Hopefully some Booger bushings will solve my problem, but I figured I'd ask first.

Thanks guys.

That's what she said... You saw this coming.

Other than that, IDK. Hopefully one of the MTX gurus will chime in soon.

Are the bushings at the transmission still there? Have you looked under the console to check for possible debris that could be in the shifter assy? Maybe try re centering the shifter, checking both ends of the cables/bushings for something damaged. Check the selector shaft bushings for wear. (Where the shaft goes through the trans case)

None of this may do anything, but it's a start.

Mine did the same thing (2000 MTX) and I found out pushing the pedal to the floor wasn't letting it. There was like a certain "spot" the pedal caught...so once I found that spot I had to adjust the pedal itself to grab when it was all the way in. Sort of a bitch, but I didn't wanna NOT press the pedal all the way in when I was shifting / finding reverse.

I had the same problem but mine did the same thing for first and second as well. I got me on of these http://www.srtforums.com/forums/f312/lc ... de-573553/ and now it works real good.

Mine does what adams did, actually both my cars do. 1gn is not as bad though. Only in reverse.

I push the clutch in, and put it back into reverse, Well it goes like halfway. I let the clutch out and it grinds. What I have been doing to get it to work is if it doesn't go in the first time, just put it back in neutral. Push the clutch it and try again, if it doesn't go all the way slowly let the clutch out while still pushing the shifter into reverse, It will go in without having to force it.

BSTC:

I'm guessing that will work on a regular neon also..? How hard to install?

Rob id start with the boogers cause when I drove your car it was a bitch to find the gears with all that shifter slop. Next up your clutch cable might be stretched since u have a 00 its stil cable.. my red coupe did that so I put a shim in the cable to take the slack up and give me my pedal back.. right at the trans.. give me a shout.. I just got a new low pro jack for my garage and we can do the skirt too..

The '00 pedal assy's don't have the automatic adjuster built in, like the Eighties MTX cars had?

the 00's are like 95-99 neons and have auto adjuster cables. but once the cable stretches so far the adjuster maxs out.. So ether new cable time or shim the adjuster like i did on my 95 sedan, my 96 coupe and a friends 98 r/t 4 door

Hhmmm...

Well, I bought the boogers today. Ryan, you'll have to help me out with those once they come. And nice job on getting the low profile jack. I was looking into one of those because the regular ones are tall as fuck and can't fit under the frame (I'm sure you know). Nice.

So, I'll fiddle with it and update once the ultimate solution is found.
