swiss cheese wheels on dubs and hondas??

Post by sidepipe87 » Tue Aug 10, 2010 12:00 am

So I came across these swiss cheese wheels on a vw passat and an integra. that crowd incorrectly refers to these as the "pepperoni" wheels, when they mean pizza, and in fact these aren't even them. but anyway... thought it was interesting. I'd never seen anyone run these before

I'd rock em. Painted a nice, "dirty green cheese" color.

The pizza wheel was accompanied for the 1984 model year by a similar wheel known most commonly as the swiss cheese wheel because of its numerous holes of different sizes that are scattered all over the wheel's surface. This wheel was used on various vehicles, but only for a short time. It was introduced in the 1984 model year, wherein it could be attached to just about every high-performance and/or turbocharged car made by Dodge and Chrysler - standard on the Daytona turbo, Lazer turbo, and Omni GLH (but not the Shelby Charger); it was also optionally used (when 15" wheels were called for) on some K-car based vehicles (400 and 600, etc). As it turns out, swiss cheese wheels were used on at least a few cars into the 1985 model year until it was phased out completely; thus there are 4-lug and 5-lug versions of it in existence. All swiss cheese wheels had 40 holes (count 'em!) and measured 6.0" wide.

I had a couple of those. They were on the LZE44 (Omni)

Basically a no name pre turbo version of the GLH.

Not sure if they are still around or not. Didn't have the full set, as the car was severely abused when I bought it.

My dad owned, both a Shelby Lancer and a Lancer Pacifica. Both cars had the swiss cheese wheels. I remember vividly helping him to hand-paint the insides of the circles/bubbles/cheese holes black with Testor's Model paint.

Lancers had either lace wheels or painted crabs. The Pacifica had crab-style wheels

He must have purchased them off of a wreck or something then. Or maybe they were spares floating around the house. He had a couple of GLHS Omni's and some Chargers and Daytona's too. I lived in a used car lot apparently...lolz

Everyone's JY front yards around here are old ass Turcels and whatnot. Rusted through, and will NEVER move as long as the trailor is staying on that lot.
