trans swap questions

Post by g_force58 » Thu Sep 30, 2010 3:30 pm

Ya'll are talkig about the clutch being hydro, My 2000 is cable. SOOOOOOOO is my car a retard or sumthin? It is an early 2000 with a build date of 4-99
so this may have been before they went hydro. Question in my mind is, when did they change to the hydro setup?

Early 2ks had the cable clutch, mid-late 2Ks had the hydro clutch. Everything after that is all hydro.

OMFG this is awesome. ivew been thinking about doing something like this for years. (i hate automatics but had no choice). but have not even looked into it because everyone kept telling me that it would be horrendously expensive and that it would not be worth it. i think i know what next summers project will be.

+1

edit; now i am also going to ask a stupid question here as well. did you have to swap the motor or just the transmission?

You could do both, but the t350 mtx will bolt up to either a 2.0. or a 2.4. As will the ATX's. They all have the same bell housing. You just need the N/A 2.4 flywheel to use the t350 with the 2.4.

Lol it is NH. finding parts for neons is like pulling teeth. the thread where you can see the new bumper (somewhere lost in introduce yourself i think) i has taken me almost over a year to find a bumper. the only other one i could have ordered was either from the dealer or from a place that makes bumpers and that would have been about 400. got this one for 50$. there is a car i could get right now that i could grab the tranny out of but i dont feel like buying the entire car for 700 when i only need the tranny you know

Make sure you get EVERYTHING. If it doesn't look related, but maybe, grab it.

Never let anyone tell you that you can't. The only reason why people say that, is because someone told them they can't and they listened.

If you have a 2000 ATX, the only thing that will work from a 1gn is the MTX. You will still need the '00 clutch pedal assy, shifter mount and cables? Not sure if there is a hole in the firewall for the cable. You will prolly need a 2gn mount/bracket for the MTX.

That's right..... Don't forget that the 2000 model year, was a "one year only" kind of deal.
1st gen clutch pedal assembly won't work, and 2001-2005 won't work in a 2000..... at least, not without doing some 're-engineering' to the firewall.

Seems there is still no solution for the speed sensor though. Going to have to look into that since it's the last factor before I start my swap in the spring.

Nope, I really gave up on it

I need an engine bay wire harness for an 01-02 mtx neon to really get my speedo to start working again.

Anyone that doesn't know... this transmission is dead now... May it rest in piece with all the pieces I could find off the road

Does the pt cruiser transmissions come with diff pin savers or anything??
