SKIM Module HELP!!!

Post by dieseldak » Mon Aug 16, 2010 10:33 pm

I recently bought an 01 R/T and it came with only 1 key and no key FOBs, since my tumbler doesnt seem to care what you put in it to turn I got another grey key and 2 FOBs from the junkyard. I went to the dealer to have them programmed to my car and when they tried to program the junkyard key the car went in to THEFT mode and locked him out for an hour. When he tried to program the key FOBs he again ran into problems with it being that the car wouldnt send out a signal to them or something along those lines.

Does anyone know anything about these systems, I would REALLY love to have another key and the lack of keyless entry is killing me.

Also the dealer said I could buy a new key and see if that would work but a new key is $90 here in Canada and there was no returns on it if it didnt work.

Thanks

I might be wrong, but I don't think a key from a different car could be reprogrammed. A new key would be a better bet. You could try buying one from ebay. IIRC, they are around $18. Better to loose that than $90.

There is also a how to on this forum, but you need two keys to program it yourself.

that makes sense--you got a random differently cut key programmed to a different neon and you took it to the dealer for them to program the junk key to your skim.

Try getting a blank grey key off ebay and taking your key to a professional key copying store and have them do it there. Adding the key fob and keys is also in the owners manual. you shouldn't need to take it to the stealership.

Yeah I figured the junk yard key may not work but why the car wont take key fobs is beyond me. im going to get a key off of ebay and have them try that, if not I may get myself a new SKIM................

I cant program anything myself as I only have the one key. To program yourself requires more than one key or a working key fob......

Thanks
