sister's 2004 Neon SXT start problem

Post by SP33DN3ON » Tue Aug 24, 2010 11:26 pm

My sister just bought an '04 SXT, ATX w/ 40K miles on it.
today we drove the car all day and it drove really nice and we had no issues. We also got full tank of gas on our way back home.
later we decided to go out again and soon as I got in the car and started it, the dashboard lights started to flicker and the car shut off by itself. The car only runs for about 2-3 secs but barely and it shuts off automatically.
I check the battery, fuses, cables, grounds...etc.. I just don't know what is it?
please help us!

Mine did that when the alternator went out and it was running on the battery. Did you check that fuseable link? You'll know if its bad right away with a little tug if it stretches instead of stay put like its supposed to

Fusible link is near the starter, in case you didn't know. Check the connection at the starter also, as the charging circuit goes through that to the battery.

Problem fixed,
We almost took the car to the dealership, but here is what it happened:
I noticed that the left turn signal on the dash board blinks without turning it on, which made me think to check the headlight's ground wire, which was the only thing, just thigntened it and the car started.

Glad it was simple. I would go through all the grounds in the engine bay to be safe.
