I do not want to lose my neon(
What a sad day.
What a sad day.
I have always properly taken care of my neon. Kept up on maintenance, made sure everything worked. Today, I was driving on the highway...I noticed white smoke coming in my rear-view. Then all of a sudden. I could no longer accelerate. I pulled to the side and tried one last time to see if it would move at all, but no luck. Threw on my hazards and waited for the tow truck. Find out tomorrow how bad it was. Mechanic said the transmission may be completely dead and said that they might have to rebuild it, and told me it would be around 3K and that it was not a guaranteed fix. Like i said, they are calling me tomorrow to let me know how bad it is.
I do not want to lose my neon(
), I love/ed him. If it goes...I am going to try to find another neon.

Just go to a wreckers and get a tranny. Cost you FAR less and they come (usually) with a 30 day warranty.

I'm gonna guess your radiator/trans cooler burst. No fun, yeah I agree go to a jy and pick one up and have someone else install it

when my auto trans crapped out a mechanic wanted $1,500 to rebuild it (labor and parts included). instead i paid $400 for a used one with 2k miles on it from a junk yard. even if you have a shop install it for you, you'll save a lot of dough by going to a jy. i found it on car-part.com iirc

auto transmissions are pretty easy to work on, i would get a jy trans and go through it to make sure it was in good shape. I highly recommend an external cooler this time. summit sells one for about 30-40 bux.

[/quote]Yup it definately needs to go lower. If its not scrapeing constantly why you are driving then its not low enough bro.

This would not include shipping removal and installation. But it gives you an idea of what a brand new one cost.

Well, found out that i was getting coolant into my transmission, however, my mechanic said that I was lucky because i caught it fast enough, so it didn't do any damage to the transmission. Thank you for the support/help guys.
Bonus: Went through my documents, and found that the original owner had documents for unlimited year, 70,000 mile warranty. So, going to see if it will transfer. (they said if it transfers, it will be free, plus they are putting new brakes on) I am at 68,300 miles.
Maybe dealerships are not so bad, eh?

It doesn't. On their initial inspection it seemed like it would need a rebuild (as that's very common) but when they looked into it more they realized it doesn't.
At least that's what I got from using a tiny bit of common sense.

Going to get raped on the brake job.acast2003 wrote:So, the final verdict was:

Transmission is being re-inspected to make sure it is functioning properly.
And...getting new brakes installed, they had about 2,000 more miles left...Didn't want to risk it...and figured might as well, not that it is in the shop
I was going to say, why would white smoke be a tranny problem, I guess its possible.
