the stock setup is where bolts go into retaining clips which are on the back side of the bumper itself iirc. So visually all you need to do is remove the bolts and find some plugs and you should be good to go.

Both Neon's I've had, the plate holder was just screwed, perhaps bolted, to the bumper. Either way, remove said screws or bolts and it should come right off.

Now we know... and knowing is half the battle.

The other half of the battle is the strenuous task of removing two screws...

does seem like a silly question.
..on a side note, I would assume he either moved into the state or bought a car from another state..
because here in Michigan, no front plate required and the dealers don't even mount the plate holder. So there are no holes to fill by taking it off... was never one there.

If there wasn't ever one on though, he wouldn't need to remove it then. It's simple investigative work though, lol. Remove the two screws holding the plate on and remove plate. Oh my! 3 screws holding the holder on! Remove them and the holder comes off. Done. Spent 2 minutes of thinking time and learned something in the process.

Even though no front plate is illegal in NY, I would do it but those screw holes are huge and jagged on mine! They even putrude like nipples. I need a new bumper if I don't want a front plate, lol.

front license plate holder

Post by g_force58 » Tue Sep 28, 2010 8:32 pm

LOL this thread made me laff til I nearly wet meself! :laughbounce:
my 2000 had 2 screws in the plate holder, took them out and got lucky. Whomever put it on used smaller screws and overtightened them. Took a soft faced hammer and gently tapped the edges of the holes flat. Doesn't look bad at all. There are still small holes if you really look.
