Tokico HP Struts 00-05 Neon
Hi Guys
I currently have on my 01 neon stock struts...I is lowered...
I'm not a millionaire so I was thinking originally about coilovers to better my ride, but I now have learned that they would cost a couple of grand to ship over...
So next think is the Tokico HP Struts ...they would be a lot less...
if I was to buy them would I just use my already lowered springs I have? would I need anything else?
and can someone tell me why Tokico HP Struts are better than stock? whats the differences? how do they better the car...?

The Tokico HP's are a performance valved strut. They are designed to be used with higher rate springs (almost all lowering springs are significantly stiffer than stock). Stock struts are valved for the extremely soft stock springs, and are poor for maximum handling, especially when used with aftermarket springs. The HP's will suppress the spring much more effectively, making for a better handling car and a very controlled ride. They will also have longer lifespans than stock units.
The HP's are plug and play, the will work with any spring designed for the car. They are virtually identical to stock struts externally, aside from some blue paint and tabs for a rear sway bar.

they are blue whereas the stock ones are black. This is why they are better.

Will the Tokico's help the ride? ie the crazy bumpy ride our lowered cars have...is it worth it? My stockers are coming on 10 years old...I have proper lowering springs but that's about it....is there anything else I can do to improve my ride without too much expense?
I have asked suspension places here but no one gives a shit about anything

I have them , and the ride is much stiffer than stock, but it isn't totally intolerable. They might be better riding, since you have 10 years on yours. Tho the distance traveled would be a bigger factor. Unless the seals are leaking from age.
The oem valving would also make it rougher riding, as it is lower, so the valving for that "near bottom" ride height may be firmer, due to the logic it is ready to bottom out. The Tokico's will be valved for the lower height, so they may improve your comfort level.

Thanx Bill but can you explain the valving thing to me I'm not to sure about strut engineering...
I'm pretty sure mine are not leaking...not that I would know but will the Blues make the ride a little more comfortable? ie every time I hit a bump in the road the car wont feel like its about to break?
if i do get the blues are they a simple in and out swap do I need anything else?

As long as your top hats and other hardware is fine, all you will need are the struts.
The valving is how the oil in the strut is metered to allow the movement of the piston in the strut body. As it moves closer to bottoming out, the oem ones might have a feature that further restricts that metering to slow the travel down. If this is the case, it could be why the ride is so harsh. The valving can also restrict flow when rapid changes in position are sensed. Usually only in the upward travel tho. You want the tire to fall into a hole quickly to help keep the vehicle height. Otherwise the car will drop with the wheel, really making it bounce out of the hole.
Prolly not the most accurate answer, but you get the idea.
