Ok so I was tooling around the junk yard yesterday finally picking up the transmission that was last on my list for my swap. When I get it home I compared the part number to a chart I saw on the 350hd topic. Only I could go to a junk yard trying to get a plain jane 96-99 3.55 trans and unknowingly come home with a 3.94 from an ACR that it seems everyone wants.
What kind of experience has anyone had running their turbo cars with a 3.94 trans. Does it really get that buzzy at highway speeds and does it really shift that fast to where I wont be able to make boost before its time to shift again? I am not opposed to putting it in my car but I want to get some feedback from others before I slap it in and are dissapointed. Ultimately I want to be happy, the built auto was fun but It wont put down the numbers of a manual.
thanks
J

i am now running a 3.94 trans, i accually like it alittle better, granted the gears are not as tall.... u really dont notice it tooo much.... the only gear that is really drasticly changed is 5th, instead of driving on highway speeds and being at 2400 rpms in the 3.55 trans the 3.94 is up near 3000 rpms, that is the biggest i noticed....

thats good info, thanks. About what RPM are you seeing at say 70mph? lots of 65mph zones around here. right now the car is running about 3200-3400 at 65 with out the lockup circuit working.
The auto trans I am dropping out of it has a bad lockup circuit. not sure if it is in the solenoid or in the torque converter. Plus the TC started chattering so I want to get it out of there pretty soon. Shame because it has good parts in it when I built it. IE RMVB, kevlar bands, modded drums all that neat stuff.
If your not noticing it that much, I may just keep the 3.94 and throw her in there.
Thanks again for the info.

i ended up getting the 3.94 out of a pt cruizer. all i could locate.... at around 70mph i THINK i am around 3k in fifth gear....
the car holds great to boost... first gear was kinda a "granny" gear for my car... it really comes alive in 2nd and third.... it is a good match for a bigger size turbo and wanting to keep traction...
