"Chrome" strips on 03-04 nose...how do they come o

Post by TeckNeon » Sat Aug 21, 2004 11:48 pm

I KNOW you know what I am talking about. On the nose, under the grill, there is those stupid chrome pieces. They are just shiney plastic, but I want to take mine off, paint them black to match the car so it doesn't look so shiney in the front. Anyone know how they come off? It would seem they are held in by clips, but I don't want to go tuggin' at shit and watch it break off my car with just the first payment made on it!

So...any suggestions? Comments? I think it would clean up the front end alot more and make it look SOO much better. Maybe one of these days I will post pics of it. But, it looks like any other 2004 in black with clear corners, black 15" Koseis, with no spoiler or fogs and soon to have no rear badges)

Mine are shiny. :?:

Anyways, I tried taking my grille trim off, and it ended up looking very ragged and unfinished, so I put it back on. It wasn't that hard, there's a couple little clips for each piece. Just be careful not to bend them too far.

I think he means they are not chrome shiny. Your r/t are just glossy shiny. I also used a flat head screw driver to help pop them out. Although they were frozen stiff when I took mine out. Outside for an hour 25?.

Very easy. But you do have to take off the front bumper. I made a how to for the 03 bumper(facia).

Up until I saw that you had a newer black R/T with the non-chrome "strips" in front, I was completly unaware that R/Ts came with color matched grills or do they justcome in black. Sorry, but I have only looked at 3 '03+ Neons in my life. 2 up close and yours here on the net. They don't appeal to me. For the $$, I would have coughed up another $2000 and got an SRT-4 if I were you. 150 HP is not worth $19,000 in my eyes.

No, I am not trying to be like you...I am not trying to make my car look like an R/T, either. I want that chrome shit it off the car. I want the outside of the car to be as black as it can be without tinting the lights. They can stay "shiney" or clear. My car is all black on the outside with the exception of the lights and those gay strips. I am sure I am not the first person to ever build an all black 2nd gen, but that is what I am doing. So what?

Yeah i know, i'm just messin with you. And i was going to get an SRT until i saw the insurance rates! Plus an R/T is more rare than an SRT, and i like having a car that people don't expect. Shit, the other day i had a group of guys in an Acura RSX ride up beside me and thouroughly scan my car for an emblems. HAHA! they didn't know what it was! My brother and i laughed for a minute straight.

I don't need a fast SRT feel good. i just need people to crane their neck and pay attention to me.

SXT is too slow and well known. SRT-4 insurance is not worth it and it is rapidly becoming a common teenaged streetricer car (suprised FAF3 didn't come out staring it yet). the R/T is my niche. Unique, mysterious, and fast enough to tease the local streetricers.

Maybe I was a bit out of line with all that...but trust me, R/Ts are cool. I dig the 2002s...definitally...the newer style just doesn't do it for me. I bought mine because I got the MAAAD hook up on it. Plus it is a great starter family car. We can fit a ton of groceries and the stoller in the trunk with the DC bar installed. Very cool in my book. Plus, it is alot more refined than my 1st gen noise maker. The R/T was an option, but for the $$$, it just didn't seem viable for me. Like I said, I didn't check it out for the style, I just wanted the suspension and the extra HP...but I can hardly notice a difference in the newer R/Ts vs. and SXT. I mean, it is there, but is it worth the extra? At the time I said, "NOPE! Just mod it for less!" Then I get on here and hear all this NGC shit...

Fuck it. I am getting a Conquest TSi or a Mitsu Starion (same thing) in the spring to keep my loud exhaust, harsh suspension, stick shift addiction under control. I am a family man first, but a car guy at the same time.
