Ok so my search foo has yeilded nothing on this topic so I wll ask it.
I know from towing trailiers that heat kills automatic tranmissions and I want to make sure that this one's tranny stays happy. So where is the best place to mount the 1/8 npt sending unit from an Auto Meter 3357 Transmission Temperature Gauge or something like it before I order it. I am gonna order an A piller pod as well for volt meter and oil pressure gauge.
As a side note did any of the other neons have more gauges built into the dash like I dunno a tach perhaps that swaps over with little to no pain. After driving motorcyles and manual transmissions for so long not having a tach is bothering me.
Edit: 2000 neon with what I would assume is the 31TH tranmission.
Dumb question - where to mount the 1/8 npt sending unit

For the temp sender, you will need a manifold to splice into the out line to the cooler. Basically it is a tee that has barbs to clamp the rubber lines to, and a threaded hole for the sender. I would also invest in a cooler if you are towing.
For a tach in the cluster a tach cluster is the only option. Your mileage will not be correct, unless you can find one with the same or close to the same mileage, preferably with just a little more miles, so it can be swapped in when that mileage is near. Search the FS post here(if you can access them), or ebay.

Probably shouldn't listen to anything your penis says, that guy's a dick.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.

Thanks for the info on the sending unit. I am used to my truck and the automatics that came in them had a threaded boss on them that worked out great for a sending unit.
The neon will not be towing, I am gonna leave that work to the chevy 1/2 ton truck. I really wanted the gauges for the transmission because the road temperatures here can be 140+ on the the black asphalt in the summer without the heat from the car.
So a cluster with a tach will swap over with no reprogramming the ECM or wiring up extra sensors for it. Did it have to be for a 2000 - 2002 neon or will the 03+ units swap over.

I believe all clusters are interchangeable between 2gns.
Unless you weld a 1/8 pipe bung into the pan, there is no place to thread it into on any neon transaxle.
