Wheels and paint?

Post by Trappy » Mon Sep 13, 2010 9:06 am

Hey everybody,
I have a bent wheel. I found a set of 2000-2002 Neon alloys at a salvage yard. The guy wants $140 for all 4 of them. Does this sound like a good deal? What are the odds of them being messed up in some way/shape/form?
Now, if I DO buy these wheels, what should I do? Paint them or leave them stock. My Neon is a light brownish 2002 model. Any input would be great
Thanks!
-Ty

Tires on them? How was the car wrecked?

Nope, no tires on them. I have good tires on my current wheels that I'm going to get transferred onto the rims (if I get them). Okay, the wreck...I was going too fast trying to follow my friend in his Jeep down a dark country road that I was unfamiliar with. I guess I tried to go around a curve too fast and my car lost traction and went into an embankment sideways, ripping the tire off the front driver side wheel. The car also rolled onto the passenger side, breaking the front pass side window and mirror and making a lot of dents. And it cracked my front bumper in a few places. The silver lining to this situation: the front wheel took out the splash guard and what went with it?? The resonator. Sweet sounding, but I want an intake soon...

Well I was actually talking about the car at the junk yard lol.

Are they on a car, or does he just have the wheels and you don't know which one it came off of?

IDK there are 2 2nd gen Neons there, neither are wrecked. I think they just had engine damage. But I'm not positive if the wheels came off of one of those or another one.

Anything over $100 is pretty steep for the wheels alone... I sold mine on here for $100 SHIPPED.

The guy at the salvage yard said that I could trade him a broken PS2 and the games + $60 for them, too. But I'm not sure that getting them from a salvage yard is the best idea...

Sounds pretty possible. They ARE alloys though, and new ones go for way more than that...

Offer him 100 unless they are some rare alloy wheels that were only one one year or something crazy. Unless you are just dead set on these you can always walk away.

Sunburnedaz: I might just do that, thanks for the thought!

HE actually offered to sell them to me for $100 when I went today. He's selling the place and crushing most of the cars, so basically I can get stuff for cheap

$100 isn't cheap. If he's really trying to get stuff out of there, offer him $70.

Getting wheels from a JY is the same as buying used. Check them out, inspect them, etc... and work on the price. Hell, knockoff wheels have more problems new than most used OE wheels.

Well I bought them, and they ARE used OE wheels. Got my tires transferred to them today, and they look nice on the Neon (probably because they were made for that car)
