F'd my Rims up Gewd

Post by LowNSlow » Thu Sep 16, 2010 8:20 pm

Went to get my tires put on and the guy looked at em and first said.... ugh I hate doing low profile tires.

They are 205/50/17s by the way... not very low profile AT ALL.

So he removes the tire off one wheel and totally scratches the living hell out of my wheel....

I tried to get pics of my wheels but it's hard because my camera is fucked up... anyhow they are scratched to fucking hell.

BOTH wheels are beyond terrible....

Ended up paying $25 for 2 tires to get dismounted/new tires mounted and balanced.

When I got home they called me and said I forgot to pick up my old tires... mother fuckers for the price and how bad you jacked up my wheels, I think you can dispose of my old tires.

Pictures do it no justice... this is after a quick cleaning.... and the pics definitely don't show how F'd up they are.. :(

Probably gonna sand them down and do them gloss black and see if that hides some of the bullshit... even though you guys hate black stock wheels, I mod my car for me...so get over it :)

Probably put a blue pin striping on the wheel....

Ugh, pictures really don't show how shitty of a job they did...

It was the auto hobby shop on base...

Most military bases have one and it's a lot cheaper labor... like 5 bux to remove a tire and mount a new one + balance.

They also help you work on your car and let you use their lift for $5 a hour.

Trust me, if this was off base and a real shop, I'd have got new wheels out of it... but this is a military installation and I doubt me fighting the Air force for some wheels will really be in my favor.

One of the locals uses this stuff called plasti dip, he was at our dyno day, and after a year the stuff is holding up really well.

http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip

You can get it at like home depot, or major home improvment places. I thinks its about 12 bucks a can and he said his be results were after 2 even coatings.

The stuffs like spraying on a balloon, its really weird but when you want to take it off/redo a wheel you can just peel it right off, which is kind of handy in the case of a rim, when road wear beats them down.

Oh and that sucks that the wheels go scrapped up, worse feeling in the world when you try and keep something safe and clean, and someone in an instant fucks it right up.

There's a how to floating around somewhere, search newb. You can clean it up, sand/fill the scratches, and your paint will have a good flat surface to coat. It will certainly look a lot better flat and clean than scratched and painted.

Jake - that crap is liquid electrical tape basically.

Damn now these wheels have the fate of being disgustingly black  When I took my tires to get mounted the owner charged me more because low profile tires are hard... 215/45/17 the kid that mounted them said, idk why he does that. I've been doing this for years and have no problems. He did a great job too.

damn that sucks, well now you've got 3 options:

1. buy new rims to match your new tires

2. patch it up, so no one can tell you refurbd em

this is the best idea!!!
3. paint/powdercoat them to look totally aftermarket, but not.

well think about it on the bright side, now you've got something to do over the weekend

Auto hobby shops can be good and bad. Me and my dad used to go on Ft Meade all the time and work on our cars. We had to leave our S10 there one day because it was taking us so long to do the rear shocks. Usually we would just do oil changes and rotate the tires. My dad was a cruel bastard somtimes lol. At like 12 or 13 he made me pull the wheels and tires off my mom's intrepid. They were like 16" steel wheels with 205/60/16 tires. They weighed like 70 lbs each side!

Anyway, sorry for the off-topic rant.

Do any color other than flat black, please. I've seen graphite on blue cars, and it looks good. I can't push this color enough, it'll look great. Do it instead, PLEASE.

Also, my buddy runs sumitomo tires on his Tercel that he has road raced, and he used to run them on his malibu he drag raced. They're cheap, but for the price they stick to the road well.

Did you know Plasti Dip now has a vinyl rack coating solution? Fix your dishwasher racks and other vinyl coated racks with ReRACK!

:-k Wonder if that works on older women....

Oh, wait silicone, already been done.

Thats a normal rate. You could of taken it to another place and had it done for around the same price. I paid $54 for mount, balance and nitrogen fill for 4 tires.

And  at kid that sucks at dismounting/mounting tires on rims. Its not hard when you have the right equipment. Sounds like they used the old style tire changer.

This is what I used on my wagon wheels when I worked at a shop for about a year.

did the kid atleast apologize? How did the confrontation go after they ruined your rims?
