Fiberglass enclosures

Post by lilolneon » Tue Nov 29, 2005 3:49 am

Anyone done custom fiberglass enclusres directly behind the tails? and does anyone have any info on doing fiberglass, i made 1 attempt, but i screwed it up, so i have to do it again, i know i gotta tape down the area, and make mdf rings for the subs, and when doing it, ive heard people say make it 7 layers thick.

i wanna mount both my 12's in seperate enclousres behind the tails so i will have some trunk space again.

Also  how do yall keep your amps mounted onto the back of yalls rear seats? i had mine mounted on there, but the screws pulled out and the amps fell :? Sony makes some tuff stuff! :D

To keep the amps to the back seat, I believe yo u can slide a piece of 1/4"or 3/8" plywood between the seat and the seat cover if you unhook it at the bottom.

i made mine w/ fiber glass...took out the whole spare tire and jack and everything. we taped the whole bottom of the trunk up and laid out the fiberglass matting. its been a while, so i dont remember how much it took total. mixed up the resin, and poured it on top of the fiberglass. the bottom section is a few layers of fiberglass and the top is fiberglass reinforced w/ some type of wood (i didnt do the top portion). i didnt paint the fiberglass, i decided to keep it clean and go w/ carpet. but all in all, it was fairly easy. just smelly and you had to hurry and use the resin because it hardened really fast.

the fiberglassing goes up behind the taillights, but not far up that i cant get my hand back there to take them off to change bulbs and stuff.

if you are gonna paint it though, you have to get bondo or something and sand and sand and sand  to get it smooth enough. but if youre goin w/ carpet, it shouldnt be a big deal if its not perfect :)
