5w40
I am considering using M1 5w40 in my neon. I have a number of reasons to use it but I am looking for reasons that would make me regret using this oil. I understand fuel economy may suffer a little, and even if it does drop 1 or 2 mpg i would still be above 30 mpg which is ok with me.

there is no 5w40 conventional that i am aware of. i checked on bob is the oil guy and they were not aware of any either (i was looking for it for my fiances beetle). my car will have either 40000 or 45000 miles on it depending on if i decide to change it this upcoming oc or the one after that. i still have a case of M1 5w30 that was a parting gift from my old job at jiffy lube.
i believe that only the 05 neons use 5w20 even though it could probably be used in the 00 - 04 years as well. we did some checking with someone that works for dodge and since there were not internal engine changes between the 04 and 05 model years you should be able to run the 5w20 in a 00-04 engine.

I know both 02 and 03 recommend 5W30. I have no idea why they changed it to 5W20 for 2005 on an engine that was left unchanged (to my knowledge).
