Resetting cluster mileage

Post by SP33DN3ON » Wed Sep 29, 2010 8:21 pm

I just got an SRT-4 cluster that has about 20K miles, and my car has 118,xxx. I read few topics here in the forums and they pretty much all say that the mileage is stored only in the cluster...
Is there a way to reset it?
thanks!

Mileage is stored in the circuit board on the cluster, as well as your PCM... you'd have to find a cluster with mileage close to yours and swap the circuit boards if i'm correct.

I dont believe its possible. If I remember correctly, the only way to get the correct mileage is for the order a cluster through the dealer and it comes with the correct mileage

Swap it in anyways, then sell your new low mileage SRT4.

Supposedly you can go to the dealer and they can add miles, but not take any away. At least that's what I remember reading.

So, your car has more miles than the SRT4 you got the cluster from and you want to reset it...why?

Document the mileage when the old cluster came out, and what the new one has, and you're good to go.

1. theres no way to have it read what your car mileage is.

2. dealership wont do it.
i know cause i tried it 2 weeks ago.

3. Trying to swap the boards from srt to regular cluster wont work at all.

Wiggy told me the 3rd one.

So your pretty much stuck with the mileage on the cluster.

The End.

I know up here where I live the dealership will do it but you need to have the old cluster with you, a form from the Ministry of Transport and then they will send the new one out and have the chip flashed with the new milage but it cost $660.00 plus tax's which totals $745.80

SO not worth it. Just note milage and run it. I did it on an older car of mine. Nothing wrong with that. Just don't lie to no one if you go to sell it and say oh it's got low milage when you know it don't is all.

Damn, someone must of came up with a nice hack, to make a few here and there. IDK if anyone in the states has the knowledge to change the actual cluster readout, without a bunch of red tape and/or no willingness to even do it. I'm sure there are tech's that can, but no one wants to/is allowed to. I'm sure if you had that knowledge, you would be prosecuted to the fullest, if caught using it.

For all we know, it's probably happening here in the states too. :sad9:

Just put the car on cinder blocks and drive in reverse for a few minutes. Works everytime!

If it is only getting a electrical "pulse" it does not distinguish which direction the shaft is turning. AFAIK, the only odometers that will go back are mechanically driven.

There would need to be a reverse sense circuit for a Hall effect type to go backwards. And we know auto makers aren't going to spend for a needless program in the cluster board, that will take the occasional mile/km off the clock. That would be f*cking ludicrous.
