sepentine belt

Post by ratchet » Thu Sep 30, 2010 12:19 pm

ok, its raining like hell over here in PA, and this morning omw to work I hit a puddle of water, wasnt huge but just enought to dim my lights and go bright and hear a squeak. Sounds like a serp belt right? Well looks like an easy job, I found the HOW TO, but what belt do I get?

Autozone has a crap load with different ribs and lenghts. Any help on this?

Just tell autozone what make and year your vehicle is and they can pull it up in their system. I don't know the numbers offhand, but that's what i ususally do... Unless you have a UDP (underdrive pulley) then look in the 2nd gen FAQ under engine and the numbers for the smaller belts should be in there!

You prolly only need to tighten the alternator belt, which is separate from the serpentine belt. you will need a 13mm socket/ratchet and 15mm wrench, IIRC. Either way, you need to loosen the locking nut/bolt, and adjust the tension screw with the 13mm. it is on the back side of the alternator.

i do hear squeaking when its either raining and or cold, when I go warm the car up in the morning. Its a small squeal. This is why I was thinking the serp, do you think it could be the alt belt because of the fact that when I hit the puddle the dash dimmed and a few seconds later the power was norm and i heard the squeal?

thanks for all the help!
