want to go boost

Post by dracer93 » Thu Sep 30, 2010 3:44 pm

I have a 2005 SXT with a 5 speed trans. Can anyone supply me with a list of parts I would need to turbo my car? Like stock SRT stuff? I wanna do this as cheap as possible...I'm 17 and don't have a job, but have allowence saved up! Thanks!

EDIT: So my clutch is starting to slip...should I just upgrade now while I have to change it anyways?

You need to look into this deeper check out asp kits in the vendor section youll need more then you think and srt turbofold does not bolt right up. youll need to find adapter plates
intercooler piping
tuning (MS rrfr ect)
tubro

You really need to do more research on this duder, and the cheapest your gonna be able to do this for is around 2 grand or so and that's with a lot of deals and cutting corners.

to add to the list
-bigger injectors
-bigger fuel pump
-gauges
-intercooler
-someone to tune it for you (im guessing your not gonna tune it yourself)
the list goes on, i suggest checking out some ppls progress logs on here.. a lot of people have used different methods to boost their cars and there is a boat load of info to learn from by reading these logs.

I'm pretty sure there's no way u can turbo your car for cheap.

Doing it the cheap way will cost you more in the end.

You basically need like $5k to do it rite.

But that's just me.

When doing turbo you go with the turbo kit then pistons rods & clutch to support it all.

not true, I did mine for about 2300 bucks and its done "right".

my adult advice to you, would be to just drive the car, when u get a job and have extra money then think about getting SOME parts for the turbo setup WHEN YOU CAN AFFORD for your car to break down.
get a trusty rusty before you get ur car boosted. it takes months to finish some projects.

but then again I dislike going out and buying the kit and putting it on (exception erick).

Im more of a wanna do all the work and fit it on myself kinda guy.

I never upgraded my fuel pump, almost 2 years with my turbo and im doing just fine. No need for stronger rods or anything and im at 10 lbs of boost.

basically, u gotta put urself in the pricerange of how much work you wanna pay someone else to do, and go from there, ive gotten mine done and running so if you want help just send me a message and ill send u my phone number. however expect to put alot of work into the car, and alot of extra time into getting everything perfect, The most money went into the tune. and yes i do reccomend getting a turbo manifold that bolts directly to the head, for the 5k hahn kit ur better off swapping engines to the srt engine and calling it a day. way more fun to play with and alot less problems.

ur looking at this list of parts.

-injectors
-wiring harness for standalone
-standalone
-tune
-intercooler
-piping
-turbofold
-bov
-alot of time
-oil lines
-coolant lines
-more time
-sensors for ms (assuming ur using ms)
-new clutch
-wideband 02 sensor
-boost guage
-02 guage
-erick steinmayer
-erick steinmayer
-erick steinmayer
-time
-time
-more time

and if that doesnt sound like enought fun

-more time. D:

But you don't know who, or what is doing the reaching. He never said anything about personally doing it himself, he only hinted at including it.

^this is nothing but FALSE

I hate it when ppl spew shit about how much it cost to boost a car when in reality they have no clue what they are talking about. :tardbang:

I boosted my car for a little over 2000 and its "done-right" sure i fab'd a lot of my own parts but its been nothing but reliable. (on going 2 years now)

You dont need pistons or rods but i do suggest a clutch. Just dont cheap out on your fuel system and tuning and you will be all set

Well, when you think you are ready, you're going to have to make time, because it's going to be an attention whore, until you make everything happy. Even if you have ASP do it, it is going to take some down time, and tweaking.

Just throwing that out there, so you have some back up transportation lined up, while you get the install properly done the first time. A learning curve here, could make for an expensive education.

This is a huge commitment, I just hope your ready for an undertaking at your age. Its like adopting a child. once u do something like this u gotta make time for this. Tune it. figure out a problem, change a part. Ull be doing this for about 1000 miles after u get it running. Ive had to push mine back to the garage a couple times.

Ive had to get a tow on multiple occasions..
faulty map sensor, junk coil pack, downpipe bolts rattling off :tardbang: etc etc

It will deff. be easier since you have a DD to drive around while your working on it tho. I had to bang my out in 3 days because i had to go back to school... guess how many redbulls i went through in those 3 days???
