Strange Noise help! (solved read my last comments)

Post by Alex Kurdian » Sun Oct 03, 2010 7:43 pm

Hey Guys
I was casually driving into work this morning and noticed a strange noise coming from my left front wheel...
As the wheel is rotating i can hear a weird noise ...I hear it more when the car is going slow...I think when the car is speeding up it gets lost in the speed...The noise is more prominent when turning right...There is a few spots of I think brake oil in the center of my mag wheel...The master cylinder is still full...I felt around the disk brake system but I cannot feel any oil...whats down there that could be at fault...its like a rubbing type sound are too tell...
Any ideas?

I have a similar situation on my Dakota. The pads were worn down, and the caliper on the brake was sticking ever so slightly, causing a squeak. When my wife would turn one way, it would drag a little more.

Look into your calipers sticking?

jack that side of the car up and wiggle the tire and see if you get any movement from it. if you do, most likely is a wheel bearing.

Mate...I did just that I took it to my mechanic tonight...we put it on a hoist and wiggled it and no movement all solid...we rotated the wheel and all seemed fine...
If its a bearing are they expensive to replace?
Is the whistling noise common with bearings?

you can get all sorts of noise from a bearing, maybe it isnt at a failure point and its just dry of grease (you cant repack it) I'm not sure what mechanics down where you are would charge to do something like that, the part itself isnt expensive though.

part

Ok so I'm hearing this whistle type noise on quiet roads ...if the bearing is going do I need to change the hub as well?? Or is it ok to do just the bearing?

But I'm still not sure if it is the bearing...I do hear sometimes when I turn right sharply I hear like a scraping sound...
I will be getting the part from the US as its about 110 bucks...they want 250 for it hear

the bearing is pressed into the hub, so it can be serviced separately no need for a new hub

you can tell if its a bearing usually by shaking the wheel from top to bottom.

Hi guys
ok I wanna thank you all for you replies helps me to understand next time the issue...

However

I found out the problem yesterday...once again negligent asshole MUTHA FU*CKERS strike again...I'm so sick of it I dont know what to do anymore...If I had a screw lose in my head I think I would bashed their heads in by now...

2 weeks ago I had my wheels balanced rotated an aligned...thinking its an EASY job I think nothing of the possible consequences...The noise in my left front was getting bad over the last 2 days..I drove it to my GOOD mechanic so he could hear it...Next thing he does is goes hang on and checks the wheel and lug nuts...THE MUTHA FU*KERS didn't tighten my lug nuts tight enough...they were so lose that you could undo them by hand on the left front wheel...I was lucky enough that at least ONE nut was semi tight that held the wheel in...We checked the threads and the hub and all is ok...We checked the rest of my wheels and they all needed to be tightened...

FU*KING HELL its outa control WTF do I do ...Worst case scenario the wheel comes off I die and the wheel kills someone and my car slams into another and kills them to...this FU*CKING country has no frigging laws to protect consumers from these assholes...short of going postal and blowing them away THEN I"M THE BAD GUY...

I'm so pissed right now I'm trying to stay calm...last night at the gym I smashed it so had my muscles are killing me...haha ...

but anyways guys that's my 2 cents worth...I tell ya all my car wants to do is drive me and 90% of the issues I've had are the result of not the car but dodgy mechanics...!
