Soooooo The Neon is almost payed off...
and due to my ass hat of a Lil brother I now desperately want a 05/08 Ford F350 diesel. you see he has had a 02 F250, and then last year traded it for a 05 F350 Lariat. since then he has added a full 4 inch turbo back with no cat, or muffler. a stage 2 cold air system, scorpion turbo, new EGR and a bunch of other supporting mods, and well needless to say say it hauls ass. and its comfortable. talk about leg room. with towing package and air ride with a engine mounted compressor it will haul anything you can hook it up to. so after the first of the year expect a new toy for me to haul the neon, my snowmobiles and dirt bikes with. cannot wait, tempted to just go give them the neon as a down but its almost payed for so I am holding off.
what you guys think? nice upgrade or what??

Pass..
I know a couple people who bought Diesel trucks and added performance parts. They got bored and went right back to cars.
I personally hate large vehicles and Trucks can't handle for shit.
Plus I heard a Large truck makes your penis shrink. And you'll have the urge to race every thing at every stop light because only the large cloud of Black Smoke out of the stacks can hide how small your penis is.

diesel = expensive. i have a few as my work trucks. yea their fun. but you can only make them so fast. and instead of hurling a 3000 pound turd to 100 miles an hour your hurling a 9000 pound turd to 100 miles an hour. takes a lot more time to stop, harder on everything compared to a car. Trucks aren't made to go fast. and if you screw with ANY emissions on a diesel your in for a world of hurt if you get caught. although it is nice to have a truck, there are better options out there. you have to think what in the world do you need a one ton for? Chances are you will never put the truck to its full capacity, so why not a half ton? i would stick with the neon. just my two wooden nickels.

if that ain't the god damn truth! my friend has told me his stupid story about racing a car in their truck more than 3 times.. he was so proud that they won only because the car had it's window down and the cab got full of black smoke and had to pull over.MoxHair wrote: Plus I heard a Large truck makes your penis shrink. I love superduty's, actually been looking to pick one up myself. However it's a really hard decision to make. Even without it intended to be my primary vehicle, unless you plan to work that truck or take it off road where you need the ground clearance you may as well stick with a good car (hence why I keep running the neon to the ground). I had several superduty's through work and really loved them, but they are expensive beasts to run, 15L of oil per oil change to wit, and it better be motorcraft oil.

I have to agree with Mox on this one. Sorry for not being supportive.MoxHair wrote:Plus I heard a Large truck makes your penis shrink. And you'll have the urge to race every thing at every stop light because only the large cloud of Black Smoke out of the stacks can hide how small your penis is.

yeah going out and getting some big diesel truck just to race seems kinda lame. If you do own a home though having a truck is a good idea, but get something better suited to your needs and easier on the wallet.

I don't know if you should go in debt..but do it if you want...just keep the neon as a backup car.
I was being sarcastic, I think buying such a huge truck is retarded.

Not if you actually use it, just most people don't.

I would personally stay away from the 6.0 Powerstrokes. They may be fine by that year, but it's just too many problems early.
Diesels don't have to meet emissions requirements unless it's brand new. So while it is still illegal to remove any emissions equipment from a diesel, the odds of getting caught are drastically reduced as compared to a car.
If you are going to haul stuff and pull stuff, I agree that a diesel is the way to go. If you are just going to have it to have a diesel then I'd suggest looking at a TDI. The TDI won't have the power, but I'm sure there are some mods out there for them. With the TDI you can expect 45mpg on the highway. If it were me I would get a diesel 3/4 ton over a gas 1/2 ton because the mileage is the same and the extra torque is amazing.
There are preferred years of the Duramax, but they are all strong engines. The same goes with the Cummins, except for one year (98 I think) that had block cracking issues, but most of those were fixed under warranty.
If I were going to buy a diesel right now, I'd look for a Cummins.
The 89-early 91s were turbocharged but not intercooled and rated at 160hp and 400ft-lbs. Mid 91 they moved to an intercooled engine but kept the same power ratings. They changed bodies in 94 but kept the same engine until early 98. From 94-98 the engine had a few different power levels depending on the year and the transmission that was behind it, manuals had 15-35hp more than autos.
Mid year 98 they switched to a 24 valve engine and bumped power to a minimum of 215hp/420ft-lbs. They used this engine until about 2003 when they make a switch to common rail injection. 2003 brought on 235hp/460ft-lbs for the standard output and 305hp/555ft-lbs for the high output. Soon after the standard output became the 325hp/610ft-lbs engine.
Mid year 2007 brought on the 6.7 with full emissions equipment and 350hp/650ft-lbs (610ft-lbs for manuals because the G56 probably isn't strong enough).
So with all that splurged out there (some from me, some from the interwebs).....
cheap/easy power: 1st gen cummins. easy to make 350+hp with very very few mods, but dirty and clanky.
kind of cheap/easy power: 2003+ Cummins. Apparently these can put out like 450hp with just a tuner/intake/exhaust but they did start to cats during this time.
If people go balls out with power, a lot of times they go with a 12v. The other plus to the 1st gen diesels is that if you get a 5 speed and keep you foot out of it you can see 25mpg on the highway.

X3. My neon has been paid off for over 2 years now. I love having no payments. I honestly couldn't think of having a car payment.LowNSlow wrote:x2...heydockyle wrote:I thought you were just broke not too long ago? With the new house and all?

I completely agree with that.
Haven't had a payment on the Neon in a long time and I can't wait til the Caliber is paid off.
However, if you get an old enough diesel it should be a direct trade.
