bad gas mileage

Post by apk2k6 » Wed Nov 30, 2005 3:46 pm

I've been getting pretty bad gas mileage for a while, I don't know if it has been since I bought the car or not. I usually fill up like 10 gallons and on a tank I get max 220 miles, so the best I get is 22 mpg. I keep the tire pressure around 32 psi *well not now, one of my tires are flat lol*, so I was wondering if this could be the spark plugs or what? I read about everyone else getting a lot better mileage.

i was in the same boat. What kinda tires are you running? I'm running the low profile ones so you can never tell when they're low but sure enough, it was, I corrected it and now i'm back on the horse ;)

PS I have 205/40/17 and keep the pressure at 38 or 40.

Mine are the stock tires, 175 or w/e they are. I check them with a gauge too, I should keep mine at 32 right? that's what it says inside the door panel.

had the same problem with mine. Got around 20mpg with a lot of stop and go... get a bottle of fuel system cleaner and dump that in an almost empty gas tank and then fill er up and run it almost to empty. Last tank I was 25mpg and this one should be atleast the same if not better and I am driving in less than ideal conditions (5 miles 1 way to work and a ton of lights)

fuel economy has a lot of variables. weather, driving conditions, etc. on the sticker the mileage is an estimate.

if you want you can change the plugs with regular copper plugs. i used to say stock champions but im not too sure on that anymore. ngk seems to be a good plug. a lot of times unusually low fuel economy can be because of a spark plug. thats how it was in my car and my sisters car.

Believe it or not, I went from 25mpg(mobil) to 28+ with kwikfill gas...
Do you have a magnum or not?
