I've heard 5mm is max as well, without longer studs.

5mm is the norm with regualar studs although ( and don't go quoting me on this if you do it and die) 8mm is possible...

I heard that if you can turn your lug nuts more than 6 1/2 round onto the stock studs then you will be ok but don't count on that. 5mm and under should be ok but 38mm is way to big. However I don't think those "nut-like" things are studs, you can search around this website, Eibach is making 10mm spacer coming with studs:

Those spacers will push your wheels out way to far. I've used 10MM on stock studs, but it's not a good idea. Stick to 5-8MM, or get longer studs.

Unless you are extremely JDM style slamming and huge wheel lips, pushing the wheel too out will look terrible especially those 38mm ones.

My opinion is to get the right size wheels.
