SRT-4 Engine Block

SRT-4 Engine Block

Post by unc-newbie » Sun Oct 10, 2010 2:04 pm

I have a question concerning the SRT-4 Engine Block itself. I bought all the parts I need to do an SRT-4 swap from a junkyard for about $1300. The one thing I noticed when I got the engine home was that the 2 wings where the transmission mounts up to the block were broke. Will it be ok to have those pieces welded back on or should I just buy another used/new short block and go from there.

New/used block, or bottom end. I would look hard at the bellhousing too.

Welding engine blocks is only relatively successful for repairing cracks in the outer water jacket. On farm tractors.

For structural damage, you will be risking it all, maybe even someone's life. Not saying it can't/hasn't been done, but both ears is a pretty serious break. Hopefully the input for the MTX didn't get damaged either. I guess you found out why the price was so damn good. :(

5114430AD Engine - Short block, neon - 2.4l dohc MSRP $2,070.00

A bare block is not listed. IDK if Mopar Performance sells a bare block.

any 2003-2005 2.4 block will work. Stay away from the 2005 N/A blocks though as they are known for crank walk...

Is this block used in any other models other than a 2003-2005 Neon SRT?

I have been doing a little research and it looks like the 2003 and up dodge stratus uses a ngc 2.4l block. So does this mean that if I can find a block from one of those years that all I have to do is swap out the internals and then put my SRT-4 engine back together?

Yes basicly alot of 1gn guys (hulhogan even) do the poor man srt swap stratus block srt internals and turbo since sometimes finding a srt motor can be expensive. also nice to know you got fresh internals when you do the stratus/pt stuff

yep (99.99)percent

on neons.org everyone reccoments srt parts for replacement on the stratus 2.4 example just bought srt timinbg belt kit(water pump tensioner ect) everything should fit up all good! shit with the motor out you could pick up some 2.0 cams from a 1gn 2.0(dohc) to add some power for cheaaapp

One more quick question. Is there anyway to tell if it is a NGC block by looking at it?

The NA NGC 2.4 blocks don't have the oil squirters for the pistons, although they do have the area where they can be mounted, but need to be machine to mount the squirters.
