im thinking remap

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

im thinking remap

Post by mr_mopar_neon » Sat Oct 16, 2010 2:51 pm

hi guys what do you all think

i did a top end rebuild on my 2001 neon rt

400 comp cam
cam gear
over sized valves
ported head
ported air intake manifold
and i also put a new crank in as the old one was a little worn.

other engine mods before the rebuild
60mm throttle body
aem air intake
st/st exhaust from manifold back
and some other bits and bobs

i ran 15.6 at the track before the rebuild and last sunday was my 1st time racing since the rebuild. ran 15.6 all day apart from the last run which was 15.4. not very happy

am thinking every think ant talking to each other right????

what would you guys be thinking of doing????

The stock computer should work fine with that setup. Perhaps buy the Driver Mod? Those 17s are slowing you down a good amount.

How many miles have been driven since the work/upgrades were done? It might take a while for the pcm to adapt to the change. Mine took 700+ miles before it ran better than it did before. It actually lost power at first, and that was just installing a 325AB cam, and cleaning out the carbon from the exhaust ports. (Which in it's self was prolly equivalent to a 400 cam in exhaust flow. )

It is why I joined this site, because it really threw me, that the power would drop so badly. But once it got it's crap together, it is all good now. I just needed a little patience.

Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.

done about 5 months of driving sinces the rebuild just ant had time to get to the track before now. so dont think its that.

she feels so much stronger.

really pissed me of spent so much on parts and time doing it all to lose 0.2 was like a real kick in the balls

PCM should definitely be set now. But there are other factors, like temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, etc.

Granted the PCM can compensate for some of that, but how effectively can it do it under WOT conditions? Even the fuel may have changed a little over that much time.

There are a lot of variables that you can't control. You are also a half year, or more older now.

Yo dude I saw you at York dragway I was crewing for a mate with a Topolino. Your car sounded nice ! You might of seen my car silver neon with black wheels....

Dont really wanna be a downer but porting the head for a comp400 wasnt really necessary, Bigger doesnt always mean better! If i was you I would get a wilder cam like a crane cam (grind) 14, bump the compression up to about 10.5:1 and get a ecu limiter bumped too 7200-7500rpm... but at them revs u might need better rods.... all ='s more money :(

Im toying between rebuilding my engine with comp400 with dohc pistons cause its getting a little tired..... btw dohc pistons in a sohc bumps the compression to about 10.2:1 theres loads of threads on here about this

You didnt look bad down the track but for a ported r/t head cam and compression should be BIGGER!!!! muhuhahahaha

wat rpm were you launching at?
