2000 interior rattles driving me nuts (any sound insulation)
2000 interior rattles driving me nuts (any sound insulation)
My 00 is really noisey inside. My wife's 09 Caliber is quiet as a mouse going down the road. I have door panel rattles and dash rattles and alot of engine noise. Is there any kind of noise insulation I can use to make it quiet inside? I drive 90% highway and would like some peace and quiet while I drive. I figured if anyone would know you guys would.

Well, using dynamat or lizard skin or some other heat/sound resistant material on the floors, inside the doors, and as far up the firewall as you can get will help considerably with engine and road noise.
As far as the squeaks and rattles... only real way to get rid of them is to figure out what is rattling and tackle each one as they come.
For example, if your dash is rattling, which piece is it? If it's just a loose bolt, tighten it up and that one should be gone. Same goes for your door panels. If it's rattling because something is loose or not connected, tighten it up.
That's really about the only thing you can do, sadly. These cars were not meant to go forever, and it shows in their production quality.

on the door panels you cant really tighten it up much with the screws. you just need to make sure all the plastic clips are on there and holding tight. They can break from time to time, and you can get spares from the chain part stores.

my door speakers have been replaced so it may have not been put back right. The only thing I have really noticed is my inside door handle is loose. It has the screw in it so I guess I will have to disassemble and take a look. I'm really going to try something on the firewall to help with engine noise. It's probably going to be a PITA.

You gotta remember your car is 10 years old. Mines only 6 and the door started to squeak. I just had a few clips holding the panel on go weak...you just gotta do like Random1 said...tighten everything up that you can in the area that squeaks..bet that will help.

Silicone spray lubricant, works great for fixing squeaks.
