Any good exhaust systems?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Any good exhaust systems?

Post by Trappy » Thu Oct 21, 2010 2:07 pm

Alright, I was wondering if there were any decent exhaust systems available for the 2000-2002 non-Magnum Neons. There's gotta be some out there. I don't really want to do the R/T muffler or Magnaflow exhaust with R/T muffler look because a lot of people do that. I would like to do something more original. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

2gn's are now 5-10 years old, trying to find something that someone hasnt already done is kinda hard. Now if you just want something that looks and sounds nice, then i recommend the thermal R&D rear section (thats what i use)

If you want just a single rear exit, then the possibilties for mufflers/sound are only limited to the space behind the rear axle. IDK if anyone has used a Spin Tech. It will be loud tho.

I put a Mopar srt4 catback on my 02 sxt and it sounds awesome just a couple hanger issues. learned the hard way and melted some of my body kit... But looks and sounds aweosme, dual exit exhaust with a resonator in the middle. Loud though

Sounds great! Maybe I can track down a totaled SRT somewhere...doubt it though. FS on here always seems to have something good...

Yes, BUT like I found out the rear section hangers (well the rubber things idk if you would call them hangers) are too short on the left, the left exhaust outlet will pull up into the body kit and look uneven, I just went to autozone and bought a longer rubber piece and problem solved

I have that Mopar/Borla rear section for sale still. It was too loud on my ATX with 2 moroso spiralflows so I built a new exhaust. I need to find a box to fit the rear section in. It fit well on my SRT bumper.

Sidepipe: PM'd
I love loudness IF it's the right sound. If it sounds ricey, then nawwww, but Neons (at least mine) tend to growl...

EDieter: That sounds really nice! I love the chrome-plated look, as well!
CGNeon: I've thought about side exits. I would wanna do one exit on each side, though. I always though turbodudey's looked great with the side exits!
Eastwood: Please do! I'm enjoying hearing the exhausts before making any decisions (if I can even save up enough $$ to buy one)!
I'll have to check out the Magnaflow...was there ever a factory muffler choice on a Neon? For some reason, on most 2gn's with factory exhaust, you can see the tip below the end of the bumper. You can't on mine...it's a little weird...

They don't make 'em anymore, sadly. But if you can track down a used one, it's well worth it. Looks great, and sounds better!

Hoping to get some performance gain on the side, if at all possible. Basically, if I can feel it anywhere in the power range on the butt dyno, I'll be happy

Without any other mods, you prolly won't see much, unless the oem muffler is clogged. The exhaust flows pretty well for a bone stock set up. Even with the 2" system mine had I had no trouble bouncing the rev limiter with a 65mm TB, and beginning to pull hard at 90 mph. (About all the 65mm TB was good at.)

I can't really say I noticed a seat of the pants difference with a 2.25" system. The most you are going to get from it is a nice/or crappy sound, and the illusion of more power. But if it makes you happier with the car, that's what really matters. :D

For the srt-4 neon there is but getting one is work. There's one on the fs board right now.

If you want a side exit on both sides you're going to have to make a custom unit and it is going to be a pain.

There is a lot of stuff in the way under the passenger side, behind the wheels would be cake but in front is going to be miserable
