Weird Noise (brakes?)

Tonight, I went for a short drive after work, when I came upon a yellow light. I braked a little hard to stop, but not TOO hard. While the car was slowing, I heard a kind of thumping noise. I did this a few more times to try to hear the noise again, and after one or two more tries, I didn't hear it anymore. What could this be, and what would I need to do to fix it? (Please let the answer be 2.4 swap!)

Maybe your shoes and tensioners or spring in your rear brakes gone bad or something...I had a noise like that once and it was my one spring broke casueing my brakes to move in ways they shouldn't have in the drum...
But this is my thoughts...doesn't hurt to look..when was the last time you had the brakes apart and looked at them?

RADAR: I never take my own brakes apart because if I don't do something right, I'd probably be screwed
gtxtreme: I didn't have anything in my passenger seats :/ I keep mine free of crap
And come to think of it, it's actually more of a squishing noise. I couldn't think right at 3 am lol. Thought it was my tire, but they're not flat...

Well if you take your wheel off and your drum off and take a front on, some side angled shots and and some front with a sligh sideways angle shot and send them to me or post them I might see something and help you rule any of that out. Just an Idea is all.

Alright, don't know if I'll do all that. I'll see if it was just a temporary thing or not, and if it persists, I'll take it to the shop. Thanks for the help, though! I really do appreciate it!

no problem...but i'd honestly say find a shop or someone that can look at it. Cause you know brakes are important. And it can get expensive...I learned my lesson lol.

Thanks! Buying brakes is getting ridiculous these days! Every year, at the beginning of school, I go and get new rotors and pads! The people at the shop say they just don't make rotors like they used to, and I believe it...

Hmmmm....The originals were changed at 1 when I got the car and just changed them about a month ago after just over 200 000kms. Are you buying the top line or cheapo's....

Yeah buy them yourself and bring them in with you...garage can't say no to you...then you know you get the good shit and no "mark up" ontop of that either.

A shop can refuse to use the parts you provide.

If you are going to supply your own parts, check with the shop first.

yeah alot of places wont use your parts as they offer lieka warrenty for there work and they would prefer to use there parts that they know"are good"

Well, I think I figured out what the noise is. My flat tire

Just found a screw in it this morning. Had already taken off for school and heard a weird noise, so I stopped to see what it was. Flat tire. Went into the gas station to get 4 quarters to use the air pump, pulled up to it, and boom! There's a screw in my beautiful (and discontinued) Toyo Spectrum! Good thing I was close to home to bum a ride from the parents. When I get home at 6, I'll put on the spare and I'll call the tire shop tomorrow to get a new tire or 2...

I don't see how they can refuse your products. If you purchased them from a parts dealer. Then they are legally safe for use by the DOT and you could just say I don't know and trust your parts supplier.
I know up here it is ILLEGAL for a garage to refuse your parts cause they are technically a "service proider" not a "parts supplier" so they don't under regulations know what's better than what. But anyway...that blows ASS if what you and frank are saying Don. I'd be pissed and just do it myself cause i know here in my area parts have a minimum of 25% mark up. Most run about 40-50% markup.

Well I gotta brake question too, I had my rear brakes replaced a few months ago by a girl who owed me a favor, and her dad did them for me (bad idea from the get go). Recently they started clicking every time i press on the brake. I know its the rear but I can't tell which side. Any ideas??
I am going to try to get the drum taken off tomorrow but I am worried I wont be able to get it back on if something pops off and that will leave me without a ride to work.

I took some pics of a car that had its drum off at the junk yard this past weekend but you can never trust those. Does anyone have an pics of what its supposed to look like?

Go back to the exact same intersection you were stopping at and make sure it wasn't the road that caused the noise you heard. There are certain roads around here that cause similar noises that always make me wonder if my car is causing it.
