Moar tire questions

Post by synviper » Fri Oct 29, 2010 3:23 pm

Okay a local is selling 215/45/18 tires im currently on 215/35/18, what will this do for me?

Will that tire give me more sidewall or will it be wider?

I cant go wrong with the deal 20k left on Bridgestone Potenza RE050A for 50 bucks for all four tires.

So yeah give me the low down people. Thanks.

It will be taller.

Stock tires are 205/50/17, which equal 25.1"

Your 215/35/18 are 23.9" tall. A 215/45/18 will be 25.6" tall. They'll probably ride tons better, and they'll be meatier.

I say do it.

Tire size calculator, put it numbers.

To break it down so you get where that came from:

215: section width in millimeters

45: Sidewall height as a percentage of the section width. 45% of the section width is the sidewall height.

18: wheel diameter in inches

wow... already running 18 inch rims, which is awefully big for a Neon..

and then going up 10% wider/taller on the side wall?

seems like an aweful lot to be stuffing under a Neon fenderwall

hope yer not lowered...

It's an SRT so it has the taller strut perches.

OEM = 205/50/17 = 25.1"

So his previous size was actually too small. The new size is a hair taller. Probably fine. I think Mox was running 235/45/17 which is almost the same as 215/45/18 height wise, but has more width.

You would be correct. I used a 235/45R17 on the SRT and MS3 and it is the perfect tire size for both cars.
