mfs w/no fog light to mfs w/ fog light

Post by phazeneon » Thu Nov 04, 2010 1:49 pm

about a year ago i bought a set of oem 2000-2001 foglights w/ harness from one of the members here. i've connected them thru splicing thru the parking lights of the turn signals. now, to my surprise i blew all my parking lights, opened the mfs and the connector on the left side has MELTED thus, killing my ability to use my parking lights at night. now, i know i have to replace my mfs nd the connector, can i put the mfs w/fog light option on, nd how do i set it up, also, can i just cut the wires then solder in the new connector? any help would be appreciated, i hate ppl behind flashing their high beams at me night, because of lack of parking lights. lol. btw: no, ive already checked the fuses, it is the mfs.

better not cut the wires - only change the plastic part from the plug.
mfs is possible - you can just look in the diagramma where the fog signal will come out the switch - so you can take that to a fog light relay.
oh yes, please install a relay harness - else you will also melt the next connector!

Pin14 should give you the switched front fog light if you use the MFS with front fog option if you can get it.
The MFS are comparable, there is no need to solder anything ´cause the function is realized by a little plastic gear.

(you can see it at the upper MFS at the right side)

so i should not chop off the old connector nd solder the new one in? even if the connector looks like this.

If you cut out a frontdoor plug you win some cableshoes so you can use one for your PIN14 front fog wire out. Solder a cable as long as needed and either connect the front foglights directly or better use a relay. Originally I think there is no relay used but can not guarantee.

Forget the switch in the picture (or better said: switch = your mfs and already connected to the fusebox).
Wire from MFS PIN 14 goes to pin 85 in the relay.

Relay sits under the hood!

Fog light indicator in the speedo?
Just ask Gnuserup for pictures but in the end you also run a 2nd wire from PIN 14 to the indicator in the speedo.

Just that simple!!!

And remember, if you have no parking lights, you may also have no tail lights. I would check that out until you get your new MFS wired in.

Don't cut any wires. Just use a terminal pick to push the wires out and swap in a new or used terminal assembly.
