No More Orders to Japan

Post by catalyst » Tue Nov 09, 2010 3:50 am

I need some help I may be getting orders to Japan and I want to bring my Neon. It should be easy to find info on what I need to do to modify my car to make it compliant but I can't find much info at all.

I'm told I'll need to pass Janaese emissions, that I may need to adjust my headlights or change the bulbs. The speedo will need to read KPH, I wonder if the KPH it has is good enough.

I'm wondering if anyone on here has ever done something like this. Also what steps to take to make sure I pass emissions testing.

Help me out, cause the alternative is storage or sale. I don't want to do either.

The KPH in your current Speedo would prolly suffice, but it is going to be more of a pain in your butt adjusting to the smaller scale.

IDK about emissions. If you met California specs, I can't imagine that not being good enough anywhere else in the world. But then again...

It has to be speed limited to like 108 or something ridculous.

Well, we are talking neons in a limited distance area. By the time it got over 100 mph, it wouldn't have enough distance to stop. It would end up in the sea.

J/K :D

Edit: Tho being in Hawaii it should count as experience, and he should be exempt from the speed limiter.

Unfotunately it is VERY complicated I believe to take a car over there. It's getting harder and harder to ship vehicles to another country.

I believe it's now NOT allowed to import any right hand drives now to Canada.

I think your right esteinmaier, I remember watching Top Gear test the GTR in Japan. Clarkson said it was rediculous but all cars are limited to 112. I hope that is MPH not KPH cause that is slow.

Japaness emissions are not as bad as NJ or CAlI standards. thats why they most japanese cars don't pass our emissions when they are brought here and why they don't suffice the DOT standard.

MY friend Tomako is currently stationed there I'll See what I can Find you But he brought his mustange Cobra over there and that thing was on running rich all the time.

V95 that sounds good, if he has done it before get me his email so I can talk to him about it.

I found a nice write up on www.Japanbases.com while searching around. The guy said around $5000-7000 for all the inspections and paperwork, but he had a big SUV, I imagine that'd be more expensive and probably one of the bigger vehicles in Japan.

So, my wife now says if we go I have two choices: sell the SRT4, and save money in Japan so that I can buy "any car you want " or let my 60 year old father in law use it while in Japan.

Just want some other opinions, I think I made up my mind but...

You could have just given me the car, it would have been cheaper.

But congrats on staying in America (until Cali breaks off and go joins Hawaii)
