I think it looks good at that height. I cut mine a little lower on my old car and the radio reception sucked after that. We have a ton of hills and valleys here so that doesn't help. Now the 3" chode antenna on the silver car.... yeah I get bad reception with that thing

FYI... your thread title is BEGGING for a joke to be made about it. Like literally, you're WALKING into it... but I won't go there

when i saw this thread i was prepared to see a cowboys pennant hanging off the antenna but you proved me wrong  Good job though  did the modification affect your reception at all?

I need to make another shorty antenna. Unless Hudson isn't using the one I gave him a couple years ago.

I still get fine reception with mine. I listen to morgantown channels too (~hour away).

Its a little shorter then the roof. Not much smaller then yours.

that's why you get satellite radio and just slap a shorty antenna on there or shave it :D

That's about the height that mine was on the old neon. I listen to the radio all the time, so reception was always a big deal to me, but that height seems to do just fine.

I gotta do this..

I never realized it until I took it out for a photoshoot and saw how dang long it is. It looks like 2 feet taller than the roof of the car.. Horrible!

I think 14" is a nice length.. Those super stubby thick antennas look silly and out of place to me... JMO tho..

this is a post i did on the same topic thought it would help

orangeneon05 wrote:hey for everyone cutting their stock antenna i have some nice information that might be helpful for the "right length to cut..
i google searched this and i found this website and yes its a ford site but thats alright i guess.

http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/antenna1.htm

and in the fist little bit of the paragraph it states the following

[ Reader Tip: For frequencies in the normal FM band (90-100Mhz) a length between 26 and 31 " will be fine. If you want to go smaller I recommend you use multiple of this ie 13 to 15.5" in order to maintain reasonable reception. - John the Ham radio operator and SVT driver (not at the same time :-) ]

upon reading this i grabbed my stock antenna and measured it and it is exactly 31" so if your cutting your stock i would go down to the 15" or 13" mqrk like the website suggests.

ill be doing this mod soon and ill let you know if the lengths they suggested still provide great reception.

The reception is horrible with a MPx antenna for me.

Looks much nicer with a shorter antenna OP, it actually makes the car looks lower LOL.

I did the cut down method on mine too, was incredibly easy, and a great mod. The only problem I've had with mine is the ball fell off, so I sharpened the end and have a spike now, haha.
