Turbo is done!!!! I love turbos. :)

Post by LCPLPunk » Mon Dec 05, 2005 7:18 pm

Well...it's the 8th day of my turbo install and it's still not done!!! :P I was given an estimate of a week and if everything does as planned i'll get it tomorrow, which will be the 9th day. :P

Here's what's gone wrong so far..

Battery is too big to fit air intake to turbo - need new battery - $100

SRT Intercooler won't work on ATX - $350 for new IC

Used SRT Oil lines bent - thankfully the install guy fixed it - $0

Lower Hardpipe for IC doesn't fit thanks to the wonderful ATX - Custom pipe needed

Intercooler Piping either can't be found or is ridulously expensive..

Can anything go right??

There are always ways. I put the mag intake manifold on the Baseline CAI instake system. Wasnt purdy, but it worked! Youll find ways around this im sure.

wait you needed a new battery? i know for a fact even with the atx the battery can be installed a couple of ways. you can turn it vertical and put new tie down straps and it will hold. hell i havnt even been usign any tiedown straps and no problems. also you can use srt piping with no problem.

my install guy said the SRT piping wouldn't work because the tranny/engine is in the way. I'm sure he knows exactly how it works, but i don't. :P

As far as the battery, it's pretty dang big. I honestly couldn't see how u could fit anything over it and have the hood shut safely.

The IC won't work because on the right side it protrudes pretty far into the engine bay. The ATX tranny sticks out alot more than the MTX. I'm having to go with a IC with exit's on each side. One side will go up through the fenderwell and through the hole where the air filter box used to be, and the other one should go in the usual spot. :P

Update:

I hate mother #$%#$ waiting..

Well, it still won't be done today..

Apparently he still hasn't found the IC piping he needs and..guess what else?

The car won't start. He unplugged my MSD ignition and it started up fine. So now i have a broken MSD ignition and the tach adapter won't work either..which means i have to buy another one.

for intercooler piping i know central florida turbo offers aluminum u-bends. forget how much for one, but if worst come to wost you could go buy a bunch of thsoe u-bends from them and give um to the guy to custom make your ic piping. if he can weld aluminum....or just cut it up yourself and get a bunch of the silicon cuplets from amazon hose and make your own....thats what we did on my friends purple civic that was here when you came by the house...came out kinda ghetto but it worked. haha if you did decided to go to cft to get them id call um first too. because they sell out of that a lot, but always get more in. so it owuld suck to drive all that way and they are sold out.

Well..we fixed the tach adapter problem because his 2nd SRT is out of comission and he's gonna use the adapter off of that one.

However..i guess he still couldn't find the piping he needed..

So once again..another day i don't have my car..

This better be worth it in the end.. :x

You COULD just go without an intercooler for the time being. Though that sucks.

Also, what is ALL the mods you have (or will have, down to the details of manifold, fuel mods, etc)?

Well, it's 700 for the turbo install, probably another 25 for the boost gauge and then not sure how much for other parts.

I had to buy a new Intercooler because the SRT one doesn't work, and a new battery and Emanage pressure sensor... :P

Well..went over to the shop this morning and he said (and i believe him this time) that it'll be done. :)

He started it up and ran it for a minute or so...oh my GOSH! It sounded like a beast!

He said i'll only be running at 4psi until we tune it tomorrow night, then 8psi here we come! :)
