SRT4 rims on little dodge neon

Post by neonperformance88 » Sat Nov 27, 2010 2:34 pm

So i did my research, i'm in between the tire sizes 205/40/17 and 215/40/17. Now my question is:
-What tire size would give me a better ride quality is there a better size than this two? i live in Florida btw. I was using the search tool but none really answered i got more confused instead... lol
-2nd what tire brand would be the best, i wanna buy the set and forget about buying tires for at least 4-5 years.. lol... i had a bad experience with falkens ;(
Thanks!

As far as which size will give you a better ride quality, probably the 215/40 since it has a (very) slightly taller sidewall. However both will suck since you have such a small sidewall.

As far as which tire is best, I have no clue. Depends on what you want. Are you only worried about how comfortable the ride is, or do you also want a good performance tire?

I'll let others handle the tire question.

However, if you want comfort over performance, pretty much ignore anything Moxhair may say in this thread.

The higher the treadwear rating, the longer it will last. You trade performance for life.

Bridgestone has a few series of tires, you'll need to be more specific.

As I suspected.

I have had wear problem on the older Falken Ziek tires.
One has to really be 'on top' of tire PSI and alignment, to run those tires.

To be fair, the new Falken 912 Zieks, seem to last MUCH longer, and wear much better, than the older 512 Zieks which they replaced.
The newer 912's are also much less 'squirmy' than the older 512's.
The drawback is, that they are heavier than the older tires. (probably in an attempt at increasing sidewall strength)

Also I'm wondering... how often did you spin the tires?

On my 1st set of Falken 512's, I wore them out in less than 10000 miles.
And no, I don't drive like a maniac or spin the tires like a banshee.

That was before I learned how important it is to keep any eye on the PSI, when running these tires...... Plus, high PSI is important, with the older 512's, due to their squishy, squirmy sidewalls.

I think this is part of the reason that the 512's were discontinued by Falken, and replaced with the 912's, which seems to be a more 'normal' tire.

Which Continental tires?

You really need to be more specific. Every brand has a range of tires from touring to ultra high performance.

There is no such thing as a good ride from a 40 series tire.

Those are too tall to fit on stock regular struts.

yea... i guess ill just stick with the 215/40/17 or the 205/40/17 that way it doesn't mess with the speedometer too much...
