Gauge issue. Kind of cool actually.

Post by Luke003 » Tue Nov 30, 2010 9:24 am

I drive an 04 sxt, and a few days ago I notice something strange when I started my car. It's been really cold out lately, and even though my starter has never had a problem before, it struggled a bit. I wasn't surprised by that, but when the engine did finally start, my gauges maxed out. They then proceeded to perform a very cool sweep back to normal, but stopping at the quarters of the circles.

I'm fairly certain this is a bad sign of some sort of electrical failure, but has anyone ever seen this before?

I would guess its your battery or terminals or cables.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the info. I almost wish I could make them do that on every start-up, ya know without the whole battery failure thing.

IIRC, hold the odometer reset button, key on, and release the button after a second or two. I don't think it will work is started tho.

Enjoy. :D

Interesting. What will that do exactly?

I see. Is there any particular reason for that function?

Hmmm. It's a cool sweep. I've always been a fan of sweeping gauges. Too bad this is just a problem...

Holy hotness. I was running some ideas in my head, but that saves myself the struggle. Now the only thing I need to do is figure out for sure why it's tripping w/o the mod. I'm replacing the battery as soon as I get off of work..

it has to do with your battery. someone wrote that in the how-to or somewhere else in SRTforums...

Low battery voltage. Quite a few vehicles do that.

Yep, it's a common, and well know issue, at least on this forum.

Is the battery actually almost dead, or just very cold? The CCA rating is only down to 32°

That would be 0ºC for him. IDK what ratings they have in Germany.

at the moment -11°C (like 12F)
it is freaking cold AND the battery is total worn out.
It was dead empty one day in the summer.
But i was too lazy and stingy to buy one... :banghead:
