sun roof problems

Post by silver.r/t » Thu Dec 02, 2010 5:01 pm

alright im not sure if this is the correct place to post this but im gonna try anyway.

well when i bought my neon i knew the sun roof didnt work but i would like to know how to fix it. i dont think its the motor because when you push the switch up it makes this snapping sound. its like one side wants to go up but the other is stuck. anybody have this problem before?

remove the glass part (6 star screws)
check the mechanik parts
(compare both sides - hopefully one side is still fine...)

mostly there is just that little metal pin out of its place.

somewhere here should be a how-to...

looks like this is gonna be pretty expensive

from what other people are saying it could be just the plastic arm, a pin, or the whole passenger side track . i guess i'll stop in at the dealer and see what they have to say.... [-o<

I wouldn't go to the dealer... they're gonna want to sell you the assembly which is like $600. You'd be better off looking to see if the pin is missing/out or the arm is broken yourself. Getting the sides synced, or in time with each other is the difficult part.

Or you could do what I did...leave it shut and disconnect the switch so no one messes with it.

I won't even try opening mine on my '01 cuz the previous owner said the last time it was opened it got stuck open so I don't wanna take that chance especially living with Buffalo snow lol.

$200 or so for all new parts to fix it, and they are CNC aluminum, not cheap plastic that comes from the factory.
