Dimming lights

Post by lilolneon » Wed Dec 07, 2005 12:37 am

Ok i just noticed this tonite, so i dunno how long this may have been happening, but, when i hit the brakes the headlights and the lights in the car all dim some, and they sorta flicker dim as im driving along... any idea what it could be? battery or altenator maybe? And the radio and amps were off too the whole time.

probably battery is low causing voltage drop or alternator is going bad. although if your battery is starting to go low or die your alternator should help out voltage when driving. so it possibly could be the alternator. an easy way to test alternator is while the car is running disconnect the negative terminal off the battery. if the car stays running for a little then your alternator is still good. if the car shuts off immediatly then chances are it is starting to go or already is bad. it is not an exact accurate test, but it can help to give an idea.

I hope if i do have a problem, that its the batter, cause then i have an excuse to go buy an Optima Yellow Top  Oh the neon has 49863 miles on it, and yeah, i remember from when i got out the car ealier. If it does happen to be an altenator problem, how much would it cost to get an upgraded one? and is there a specific model # for it?

i just bought a higher amped alternator from www.excessiveamperage.com ,getting it installed this weekend. its 180amps if im thinking right. they custom build them when you order.... $290 shipped or $320 shipped if you want it powdercoated. it takes a couple weeks for them to build it, but just be glad its not a starter problem

Yeeps! I barely have 20 bux ne more, and thats for me some booze this weekend! I spent the rest of my money buying shifter cables, and a shifter so im closer to doin the mtx swap.
if i ahve to have a new battery, my dads gonan get it for me, it its the altenator, dodge should take care of it, since im still under warranty, and ill kick em in the nads if they say the exhaust caused it
