Black out side markers?

Post by DetergentCandy » Tue Dec 07, 2010 2:17 am

Don't yell at me for not searching. I searched. I promise :salute:

SO! What's up with all these side markers, eh?
Why do they all have lights behind 'em, eh?
Why don't more people black 'em out, eh?

No seriously, why? I assume it's some sort of legal shmegal crap, that says you've gotta have some sort of indicators visible from the sides of he cars? And since Neon's turn signals/parking lights are in the front/center, you can't see 'em from the side? So that's why they added the side markers? To mark the sides? Question mark?

The nightshade on mine is going out. So I need to re-do 'em soon.
But, the lights are barely visible through the nightshade anyways. So...what's the problem if I just gloss black them instead? Who needs lights on the side of your car, right? Right? Eh?

Can I black 'em out? Or is that stupid?

It depends on the laws where you live. I know here that you must have the turn signals visible from the side of your car. You can still nightshade it, as long as you can still see it blinking. I'd check with your laws

you need to have orange sidemarkers in the front side and red in the rear side.
thats what they are good for.
american law.
front standby lights does not have the same function - cause the are not visible from the side.
nightshade looks cheap.
better buy clear sidemarkers from ebay, open them and paint the inner parts.

When someone broadsides you in the middle of the night, (whether they seen you in time or not, [try and prove/disprove it]) and they see your side markers are painted over, their lawyers will have a feeding frenzy on your ass.

If you want to take that risk, be my guest.

The only problem is, your face might be embedded into the other guy's grille.

I just used vinly tint cut outs over clear lenses with amber bulbs. Pitch black, perfect light output, and removable if the cops want to be dicks.

So I don't like the idea of blacking them out, anymore XD

Guess i'm either going LowNSlow's or Jenni's route.

Thanks folks :D

They don't blink, they are just running lights.

That's what I did, but I went with body color so they don't stand out so much.

I can't take credit for the last pic. A buddy of mine took that shot (and some others). He has some kind of boom fatty digital camera that he uses for urban exploring.
