MTX RPM's?

Post by King Crab » Mon Dec 13, 2010 1:48 pm

Okay, well my 2000 MTX started having a problem with the bearings where the drivers and passengers side axles reside. Long story short, I picked up a transmission and swapped it out this past weekend... Fun job.

My question is that my original transmission ran on or about 3,000 in 5th gear and I would be going 70 MPH. Now the replacement transmission runs at 3,000 in 5th gear and I am at 65MPH. Why?

Thanks for any input....

Depends on what year the MTX is. '03 up had a 0.72:1 fifth gear, and the older ones (not all) had a 0.81:1 fifth gear. But your '00 should of had the .81 IIRC. Unless it was previously swapped for a .72.

There is also the chance you have an R/T MTX.

IDK what the difference is between the 3.94 and the 3.55 FD RPM's with both being the .81 OD

Thanks occasion demons. I thought I remembered from a few years ago that the R/T MTX was geared a little different. Once I get a little more acclimated with the way the new transmission is, I'll push it and see where it takes me. That is, to see how the new suspension and transmission play together. I hope to get better fuel economy as well.... Time will tell.

Thanks again guys!!!

Peace! :D

Oh yeah, just so you know... I am the original owner, so whatever came stock on my Neon is what I had.

Wow, guys... I know it's been a while since I've graced my home away from home here at 2gn. So much has changed in my life, but I'm still alive and kicking. :D It's all good!!!

Well, I wish I could say the same for my baby. But, I guess for having her running well for over 10 years.... time catches up to us all. All I can say is thanks to this family here at 2gn, I've learned a lot over my time and I have the confidence to try being a weekend mechanic. Oh SHIT!!!

As I always say.... you guys ROCK, and so does this ORG!!!

PEACE.
