Indy Intake Manifold.
Indy Intake Manifold.
Initial Impression
- Plenty of room for improvement as far as porting, polishing, etc.. goes
- Looks like a quality piece, besides rough casting marks, but that's to be expected on a cast part.
Install Impressions
-Besides the vacuum fittings being bought, it's ready to go. install was actually a sinch, and i'm set on believing that all the indy fitment bashing was 1st gens only. i even used factory hardware for everything. map sensor sealed perfect with the oem three year old o-ring. fuel rail bolted right on, even my 2.0 HO cover slid right on. Only real problem i had was that i had an iceman for a magnum, so i needed to source a straight bellows tube.
Driving Impressions
Ok, i came from a broken magnum intake manifold to the indy. by broken i mean it had no secondaries and was "wide open"
here's what i felt. upon initial start up and drive i was actually giving it more gas than necessary, it felt like it just wanted to move, so i slowly adjusted to having to use less gas to get up to the same speed. the power from 1k-3k feels better, i feel like i have a better use of my low rpm's now since my secondaries were broken i guess the indy works better down low than a open magnum. the only reported power dip that shows on an indy dyno is from 3k-4k, but i havent really noticed anything, if anything it feels a bit better. but with a wide open magnum theres also a power dip from 3k-4k. up top definately feels better. 4k feels really nice and at 5k it feels like my secondaries opening, gives a nice strong pull, and for a while i kept tapping the rev limiter before catching 2nd.
Overall Impression
-From a wide open magnum i noticed in improvent in power throughout the rev range without a noticable loss of power anywhere. if you go from a magnum to a wide open magnum, that's the powerband you will have with the indy, but it's a more friendly powerband imo, more umph down low and a nice gain up top. fit well on my car, and didn't give me an ounce of trouble besides my bellows tube, but that was a $2 fix.
Test Subject
-2k1 R/T with Iceman intake, unorthodox udp, lfs 60mm tb, msd coil and wires, stock champs, no cat, srt4 catback.

sry for bringing this up from the dead. Louie do u think for my 04 sxt i should consider this manifold over like a box or mag. right now im n/a and will be running an srt turbo sometime in the next year at about 7psi. think it would hurt me to much right now to install this or should i go for it. right now i have the i/h/e/udp boltons, comp400, gear, and maybe safc2 will be on soon. sorry for asking kind of a dumb question but ur the only person i know thats given a decent review of this manifold, rather than just bashing it.
Though i am not louie, i will say that i would personaly at least get a mag head before thinking of a new intake manifold. Your stock intake manifold will hold the PSI and you will see little gain in changing it out, where the head would make much more differance per dollar. Just my .02c
NoDestiny: 2004 SXT Silver MTx: CAI, Mag Intake, Mag header, Custom made mufflers, Grounding kit, Mopar STS, boogers, Eibach springs, Rear SRT4 struts, 29mm + 24mm hotchkis sways, MPx UPD, Street Prothane MM, P-werks rear strut tower bar, Lots of fun goodies inside, see WWW

ya, thatll come sometime, chances are before a new manifold would, just id thought id ask about this before the thread is completely lost in the depths of the forums, and stock mag heads are becoming hard to find. i checked a bit and i think im just gonna find a mag manifold for now and then a year from now when i go turbo ill remove the butterflies.nodestiny wrote:Though i am not louie, i will say that i would personaly at least get a mag head before thinking of a new intake manifold. Sounds good
I have been trying to get a mag head for around 4 months now with no luck
Only ones i have seen are ebay ones that have not enough info to convince me to buy them, or are too high priced.

I would agree with Louie on the Indy if you have the mods to support it then its not bad but on a mostly stock motor its a wast. Only thing I had an issue was that it allows so much air that the stock ECU even the AFX couldn't compinsate. I am going to do some dyno pulls with the Indy and a box manifold though to see which is realy better.
When I do this my set-up will be the following.
Indy, 60MM TB Ported/Pollished head, mag cam/comp 400 (going to dyno both). tti long tube catco cat magnaflow 2.5 race then a dynomax 2.5 turbo muffler.
If I can get the AFX in time for this I will add that.
I'm trying to get a crane 14 but not sure if I can get one for a decent price.
And if FLYBYE4 ever sends me my SAFC II that will be on there as well.
I will let you guys know as soon as It gets dynoed.
