How many KMs (or miles) are you getting per tank?

Post by Johny » Sun Dec 19, 2010 1:51 am

I've tried searching around the forum but I couldn't find any direct answers. I feel like I'm getting shitty mpg - I'm getting around 350 KMs (217 miles) per tank if I go until the light comes on (city driving). I usually end up putting in around $40 once the needle is at the second last bar, which ends up being like 37 liters or so.

I've recently put in a new cat, and newer spark plugs (I say newer because I took em off my parts car cause mine were causing weird idle). Could it be the O2 sensor?

What are your numbers? What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Not enough.
Also, gas is much more expensive up there in Canadaland than it is here.
Last time I checked, I got 36MPG on the highway. Figure in about 10 gallons TOPS before refueling, usually less because I don't like it to get that low.
Also, there are lots of threads on this already.
Also also: Your car is probably fine. There are some tips in other threads that I'm too lazy to look for on how to get more MPG, like not accelerating so fast. The real test is how much your car makes on the highway at constant speed. If something is wrong there, then something will be wrong with your city figures. If not, then you just need to alter your driving style to get better mileage in town.

Most kms have been 633 (by driving 90km/h and cruisecontroll on), average may be some more than 500.

SRT stage 1 @ 15 PSI.

I have an app that keeps track of my gas mileage.

The furthest I've gone between fill ups is 277 miles, the average is 197.21 miles.

My average MPG is 20.64 with the best being 25.57 MPG.

If anyone is interested in the app I use, it's called "Mileage". It's available for Android phones.

That works to ~22mpg. I would say that is normal for an ATX in the city.

If it makes you feel any better, the GF's Sundance 3.0 only got about 10 mpg with strictly city driving.

With the new(er) engine, it is exceeding the original 24 mpg hwy rating by 4 mpg. At least i'm getting something for my efforts.

But the neon, with mixed driving, I generally get 325 to 350 running it to 1/8 tank. But I can do much worse.

keep in mind winter gas is poop. Your car taking longer to warm up, is also bad for gas mileage. It's a winter thing.. lol

Ouch.... I get (got when it was running) about 200 miles per tank in the SRT-4 and that includes a wot pull EVERY time I jump in it... lol.

I atleast got wot through a gear every trip I take.

On the highway going to Texas I managed 29-30 mpg with 99% highway driving.

hmm, i get about 12 city and 28 hwy in my duster with a 3.0. but it's a mtx.

i'm currently getting about 22 city. i DO have a mtx, but i also have a 6 year old k&n that i neglected, winter gas, snow tires, and a tweaked alignment at the moment.

The ATX's were actually rated 1 mpg better than the MTX's, and they are very closely matched performance wise. No real advantages/disadvantages between them. A co worker and I ran them one day, and neither one of us could get an edge on the other.

Not sure what the screwed up on the neons. Unless the neon MTX is just a better match for the car, than the Sundance/Shadow MTX was for the P bodies.

I get 26-27 mixed driving.
Best i've gotten was 32(80 mph) on the way to LA.

Normally I can go 230-250 miles before my light comes on. Then it takes about 10 gallons to fill up.

It's really all in how you drive it. I'm supposed to get worse mileage out of my car because of how the transmission is geared, but it's no big deal for me to get 36MPG on the highway consistently. Granted, I'll probably never get the 432 miles to my tank because I won't run it dry before I fill up. Hell, if I really wanted, I could get two miles between fill ups and just stop at every gas station I see.

I think I need to re-clock my fuel canister. When I fill it up it goes under the full dash. Instead of the F. According to Scan Gauge it says I have 1.1 gallons left, fuel light goes on at 1.5 I believe. I filled it up, Clicked at 8.8 gallons. scan gauge said I had 11 in there. I average around 24mpg city and highway.

Odd bump but I'll add mine. About 220 miles till the light comes on in my 03 ATX. I'm thinking there is an issue somewhere because years ago I remember getting close to 300, if not more, per tank. New plugs, wires, and coil as of last year around this time.

As a reference for someone in a similar climate to the OP, according to my fuel app I have achieved an average of 492km per tank over my last 7 tanks.

I'm getting about 220-240 miles per tank, it costs about $30 to fill it. Probably should invest in some new parts to get the numbers up. It;s a nix of highway and city/town driving.

300+ miles per tank on my '03 SXT (stock) ATx.
I drive combined city/hwy and hwy is always 70+ mph on average. I avg anywhere from 24-30mpg depending hwy to city ratio.

All of you thinking you're only getting 200 miles - that isn't necessarily true. The '03-'05 Neon's have a 12.5 Gallon gas tank (owner's manual). Next time you fill up at 200 miles, pay attn to how many gallons you are truly putting in the tank...my guess is only 8-8.5 gallon. For some reason the gas dummy light is programmed to come on when there's still 3-4 gallons left in the tank.

This is a picture of my trip tonight, I drove 305.9 mi then stopped at the gas station. It cost me $35 to fill up, taking 11.079 Gallon - 27.619 mpg (STILL had another gallon 1/2 in the tank if I wanted to run it bone dry) :)
