New ACR: No lugnut key

Post by Passt » Tue Dec 21, 2010 8:10 pm

Anyone near me able to help me with this? The dealer wants $120 to TRY to take off the lugs. I heard hammering a 12 point socket and using a breaker bar works for this, but I don't 'have either. I need to get the wheel off to fix a leaky left front cv boot so it'll pass inspection. I'll pay with beer or food. Thanks in advance fellas.

Why don't you just text me. I'll have it off in NO time. Had to do the same thing with my 05 before I sold it to Ryan.

Oh god... Be careful with those wheels Jerry.

My local dealer had a key they hammered on to it, and then just twisted it off as it had a reverse thread. I had no working key for my new '05 either...

I have the craftsman equivalent of this...

http://i.sears.com/s/pi/mp/4446/2093835 ... 0b342f26e3

I bet it'd work...

They have teeth on them and when you hammer it on and loosen the bolt... it'll dig into the bolt or lug nut as you remove it.

Hey at my work we have lock "burning" tools, in which we hammer on a socket that has spiral threads in it. hook it up to the impact wrench and it will come off in a matter or minutes. I run into cars who have the same problem all the time.

I was going to hammer on a 22mm impact grade socket and impact it off, but Nate found a better idea. The previous owner sent him the lock!!

True. Worked atleast 4 times on my 05! The hardest part was getting the old lock out of the socket. Took a few minutes hammering it against the ground.

several tool manufacturers make kits specific for this. snap-on's kit is the best.
