New Side Exit

Post by UriahRR » Fri Dec 24, 2010 5:58 pm

Well, after my dual side exit fell off two months ago from bottoming out and I've grown tired of inhaling exhaust fumes and deafening myself from having no exhaust, I had this puppy made.

I know it's not the prettiest exhaust out there, but it gets the job done, my car is drivable now that the noise and fumes are behind me... well, next to me. Let me know what you guys think, but down't be too harsh on it. And for everyone who knows that I like loud cars, believe it or not, this exhaust is on the quieter side for me, much quieter than the dual exit, AND I can go over speed bumps now.

2nd picture from bottom looks like the exhaust is like 2 inches from the ground!

This exhaust looks like it would still give you trouble. Picts of the old setup?

Okay, I guess that I'm the only one... I like the stickers so I'll go ahead and post about myself before any one else does... :tool1:

The new pipe still looks awfully low but good job.

Should have just ran a single exit out the back, maybe the side of the bumper, or just dumped under the rear bumper.

like the SEE but it looks almost like it sticks out a little too far from the side of the car.

I hated my side exit on the SRT. Was way too loud and it looked like poop. Single Exit out the rear was a lot cleaner and I could drive without my ears ringing.

But if you like it..

I know quite a few people who think SRT's sound like crappy dump trucks. 2.0's can sound great with the right exhaust system. With any NA car they need to be muffled and resonated quite well IMO. Some people like their car loud, everyone is different. :)

I'm content with how my red car sounds with a side exit.

Borla header, stratus cat, and a resonator. Little loud, but nothing unbearable.

Exh looks good, would look better with an angled cut like Ryan said.

I ran my 05 neon for years with no rear muffler. Just took it off where it goes over the axle. Honestly, I don't know how I lived with it for so long.

Yea guys I'll have a vid up as soon as I dig my car out of all this snow. It's really not that loud at all, was much louder with the dual rear exit, and MUCH louder with the dual side exit. I think it needs to be much deeper, but the vid will be the judge. As for the angle cut, I think they're a bit trashy looking on a stainless pipe. As for the straight pipe out the rear, that's just no fun - boring. Basically, as with most things on my car, I wanted it to be race inspired. Not chrome and flashy with a killer sound, but streamline and non-restrictive with bare-bones racecar looks.

Gramps, thanks for digging the stickers, man. I know they're a bit lame, but it seems like everyone is so paranoid about being a ricer these days that they are afraid to express themselves. Would I put stickers on a viper or lotus? No, but a Neon? Hell yea, it's a fun car to just mess around with. Plus, everyone I have ever asked off this forum has liked them.

It depends on where the pipes are. My duals in the back are angle cut to be parallel with the ground. They don't look too bad. It helps they are a clean cut, and I smoothed the edges.

If you angle cut it parallel with the body, it will be louder in the car, as the sound will be going out/forward. If you angle cut it perpendicular, it would bounce off the tire, to the front. The way you have it, it is directing it out/back, so it sounds quieter. May not be everyone's cup of tea appearance wise, but for in cabin noise levels, it is a win.

Dual outlets are louder due to the larger overall opening. I plugged the SRT rear section on one side until I replaced it, so it was much more bearable.

The dual tips being louder isn't from a bigger opening but from the sonic occurrence of making the same sound come out of two areas vs one.

I'd like to learn more about this since right now It's basically one big empty tube - and it sounds like it. The only thing behind the cat is a CherryBomb the size of a resonator, so though it's good for flow, the noise could be better.

On my old B&W 1GN, I ran the stock midpipe to a cherry bomb, then then turn towards the drivers side, and out after I crushed the pinch weld to just in front of the driver's side rear tire.

It was exceptionally loud and terribly amusing. I eventually tired of it scraping on every curb, bump, etc. But it was fun and scared the shit out of alot of people I would drop a gear or two beside...
