Found a trans for sale, with broken input shaft. Rest of trans condition is unknown, but it comes with an LSD.
Whats the odds of the LSD being bad? And from what I'm reading, it won't fit a t350 correct?
Srt trans btw.

Quaife LSD

05 OB SRT-4 - AGP Stg 3 Delta 44 Turbo w/ Supporting mods
98 Platinum Coupe - 2.4 Swap
98 Flame Red Sedan - DD Slow
98 Sport Coupe - Totaled
05 SXT - Sold
So the quaife and the obx (only listing because of similar design) wont fit the t350hd but will fit the t350 from the say... 99 and below? Interesting, I thought the internals were identical in each and it was just the case that was different.
Hmm, learn something new every day
edit... nevermind I just saw SRT trans... Im still learning to read.

No... The quaife that is for the 350 will fit the 350 or 350HD.
The one that is for the 850 will only fit the 850, not the 350.
And actually the compound of the gears and synchros are a little different from 350 to 350hd. The case is almost identical besides clutch/hydro i'm pretty sure.

Thought id throw this out there and help explain that for ya. lol
The main differences between a 2gn t350hd and a 1gn t350 are the following
*Borrowed from drakito and other sources below
The 1gn uses 8620 steel gears while a 2gn uses stronger 9310 steel gears. The spline count and ring gear tooth count are different from gen 1 to gen 2. So it is impossible to use a 1st gen ring gear with a 2nd gen output shaft or vice versa.
Cases:
For maximum strength, use the second gen back half with the 99 bellhousing side, if using a cable actuated clutch. The 99 bellhousing has the most webs for strength as does the second gen back half. The upside is the 2nd gen section has upgraded rear bearings as well. The minor downside is both these case halves are heavier than the earlier design. The 2nd gen bellhousing is also very stout so if you wish to switch to hydraulic it is a good case all around. The 99-up bellhousings also increase oil capacity to almost 3 quarts for better cooling and longevity. The only differences between a 350hd case and a 99 case are the rear main bearing size and a hydraulic clutch setup. The 95-98 cases do not have the webs around the diff or on the back of the case and a smaller oil sump.
1st trans have a fail point close to 300hp
2gn trans have a fail point close to 500hp
There is also a difference in the syncro keys

My own findings
The bellhousings are different between the 95-00(early builds) t350 and (later) 00-05 t350hd is that the hds use a hydraulic clutch while the older ones use a cable clutch. The clutch its self can be used in ether trans its how its activated that changes.
if putting a 2gn tran in a 1gn or cable car you need to use the older bellhousing with your 2gn trans and have new bearings and races put in for the differential. Some get away without having the turning torque checked after doing this and dont have issues.. but I would suggest having the turning torque checked as the diff might need shimming. My 1gn/2gn r/t trans did not need shims after this and i had it checked out.
and of course lastly the gearing in the 1gn trans vs the 2gns are listed below. 2gns have slightly longer gearing which can help out with a boosted car.
has pts, neons, stratus trans and srt4 gearing listed. click on tabs in lower left corner to see.
