Carfax anyone?

Post by 71ValiantSRT-4 » Thu Jan 13, 2011 5:38 pm

Anyone have an active carfax account? I'm looking at an ES and would like some more info on it. Any help would be appreciated.

Carfax is a joke.
My dad used to do rebuildables, and he said he used to get totaled cars in ( r-title'd) and just search carfax for the hell of it.

Not only was the mileage off, but it said the cars were a clean title with no previous wrecks.

Sometimes it takes several weeks/months for the insurance company to report to the agencies that update Carfax. I use Carproof here in Canada and so far it has seemed fairly accurate.

Also, as a note, when you purchase a Carfax account, their TOS states that you are the only person to use it and for your own personal use. Anyone that chooses to provide you with this, is violating those TOS.

Good luck with your new purchase.

Yeah, Carfax should definitely be used with a grain of salt. When I was looking at 323's, I was looking into a beautiful blue one: Mint paint, low miles, strong engine, etc. Looked it up on Carfax (using the correct VINs off both the engine and frame) and not only where the miles wrong, but it also listed the car as white.

Carfax is only useful if the repairs are reported. Many shops do not report to Carfax, nor does Carfax go out looking for info about cars.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...
