MECP schools

Post by HazmatJeff » Sun Jan 23, 2011 7:23 pm

Has anyone here gone to any of the schools located in the states (I know of 5) to get MECP certified?

I was looking at going to MT2 (Mobile Technical Training) located in South Hackensack, NJ. It's at 10 week program and includes mobile electric installation and custom fabrication. It seems very neat and seems like something that caters to the field I'm going in to.

It's like $6,500 to go there and another $186/week for housing. It's the closest school of that nature to me, but damn it's a lot. Does this seem like a good option to do?

Been through it....I went to a Boston facility at the time....All depends on what you want to do they have different levels..

Mine was mostly paid for by the shop I was working for but Its def a lot of hands on training and you will learn a lot..... Most of the instructors were awesome and you have the option of doing work to your own car as training so that was a plus...

My problem was that I was going to open a store at a bad economic time...plus all the competion around made it tough as well...Its all in what you wanna do...Good luck and if you go have fun...

it's a nice piece of paper to have on the wall but you can learn just as much being an apprentice at a good shop for free. in my experience most local shops could care less about having the cert.

+1....all depends on what he wants to do....i started at a shop when i was 8 years old sweeping floors and stuff....im more of a visual learner so being able to watch the stuff get done for years was a huge help...but the certificate is a plus if u want to open up your own shop and stuff...

but either way good luck...wish i had more time to do half the things that run through my head on my car lol.

I haven't figured out, but as of right now it's for my own personal gain. When I go there I will be ASE certified and this will just be another notch in my belt.
